Cpt Tuttle Posted October 25, 2017 Posted October 25, 2017 Imai's old convertible may not be the best kit in the world, but I think that it might be possible to do something out of that one too. The side trim removed and bumper holes filled to give it a smooth, rounded look. Porsche Fuchs wheels, detailed with red instead of black, since this one is getting a red paintjob. Disc brakes all around. I have never liked the Super Beetle dash with its square protruding instrument cluster, so I made a custom dash with a narrowed Porsche 911 top and built up the shape against the windshield with the rear part of the stock dash, styrene strips, CA glue and baking soda.
Jon Cole Posted October 25, 2017 Posted October 25, 2017 Aw, now I'm sad. Had both the IMAI Bugs in my stash, but had to go.Are they the only "curved glass" Beetles in 1/24- 1/25 available?
Cpt Tuttle Posted October 28, 2017 Author Posted October 28, 2017 I'm building this to match the Scirocco I built last year, so it's getting a grey/black interior like that one. So I sprayed the floor mats grey, and then I will spray a black coat on the carpeting. It's molded in brown, not very nice. Also sprayed the grey on the seats. The rear seat is stock but the front seats are from a Scirocco, looks a little bit better than stock. Shaky hands and crappy mobile camera but well.....the steering wheel is of course out of a 911 too. Lowered as much as possible on those tires...
mod3l Lover Posted October 28, 2017 Posted October 28, 2017 I never knew a kit like this even was available!!You have a very nice build going on there! David S.
Cpt Tuttle Posted October 28, 2017 Author Posted October 28, 2017 I think it was reissued by Aoshima not long ago so there should be a possibility to get one....
Cpt Tuttle Posted October 28, 2017 Author Posted October 28, 2017 Yeah, it looks quite proper with the grey/black combo.Sprayed some flat black on the top too, looks more like fabric and less like plastic now. The seats are finished too and I thought red seatbelts would be a nice touch, matching the paint and won't disappear against neither grey or black. Since there was no belts molded into the Scirocco seats though, I had to take a pair from the parts box. Conway Twitty or Megadeth? Whatever you prefer, speakers is a good thing to have. It's getting close!
