OldTrucker Posted March 28, 2018 Posted March 28, 2018 I finished this model late in 2015. It was the last model that our next to youngest grandson Isaac was watching me build. Every time he came over he ask Papa, is it done yet and I would show him what I had done on it so far. I was just about done with it the week before father's day 2015. I had planned on giving it to him when we had a family get together on Father's Day. We lost Isaac the day before Father's day to a terrible accident at his aunt's house. He was 1 month shy of his 4th Birthday. After that I wasn't even sure I could even build another model let alone finish the 57. One night when I couldn't sleep I sat up all night and was looking at the unfinished model on the desk and then looked up at Isaac's picture, then went to work and by morning it was done. It is my tribute to the best little buddy this guy could have had and he was a future model builder for sure.
89AKurt Posted March 28, 2018 Posted March 28, 2018 Sir, that is beautiful. But I'm partial to '57 Chevies because my dad's father had one that he bought new, and then traded in for a "Chevy" LUV just before he died, which I inherited. Which is one reason I got a station wagon, for awhile. Love seeing a red one, you did a fine job. I've read a few stories about how this hobby is therapeutic, and this one is heartbreaking, yet you overcame it with flying colors.
TooOld Posted March 28, 2018 Posted March 28, 2018 Such a tragic loss is incomprehensible to most of us , you've showed great strength finishing your little buddy's '57 Chevy . Nicely done .
Geno Posted March 28, 2018 Posted March 28, 2018 A fitting tribute to Isaac John, God bless you and your family and a tough loss.
espo Posted March 28, 2018 Posted March 28, 2018 Very sorry for your unimaginable lose. Our hobby has a way of letting our minds drift to more pleasant thoughts and I hope it works the same for you. You '57 Bel Air looks great and I like the darker red color than what you usually see.
57peppershaker Posted March 28, 2018 Posted March 28, 2018 Real sorry to hear your sad news Johnny. Your finished 57 looks real nice and helped you at a time in need. Im pretty sure that Isaac was watching from afar as you put the finishing touches to it.

Dave Darby Posted March 29, 2018 Posted March 29, 2018 What a beautiful and moving tribute to your grandson who was called home early.
Mahogany Rush Posted March 29, 2018 Posted March 29, 2018 Don't normally tear up while reading this board. Congrats on finding the strength to finish the build as a tribute to your late grandson. I am sure that he is proud. Carry on sir.
Lovefordgalaxie Posted March 30, 2018 Posted March 30, 2018 Very nice of you on going over the grieff and finishing building this great model. It can be very hard, I know. In 2011 I was building a '64 Impala for my uncle when he passed away. I could never finish the car. It sits inside it's box, unfinished. I cry like crazy every time I touch it...
RAMBENNA Posted April 1, 2018 Posted April 1, 2018 a great tribute to your grandson and a great looking 57.
