Many a moon since I last finished a model but I haven't been completely idle.

The XK 120 came out about the same time I did and it is still my all-time favourite car design. The kit has its pros and cons but, as you can see, it captures the basic shape really well.

I've built it curbside but there is an acceptable engine.

I didn't like the kit's wheels and tyres so I used the inner wheels from a Monogram 58 T/Bird, modified to accept the kit's hub caps, and the tyres from a Revell 37 Ford pickup.

The windscreen and its glass were tricky to get right. I thinned down the frame a bit and had it (and the other chrome parts) re-chromed.

Paint is Tamiya black from a can with Tamiya Purple Red acrylic from a bottle for the interior.

Exquisite work, and a fine illustration that even an "old" and relatively simple kit can become a knockout model if 1) the basic proportions are spot-on, and 2) the builder goes the extra mile to get everything just right.

The re-work you did on the windshield frame is a huge improvement (I'm quite familiar with this kit), and the tire substitution gets the look right for what an early car might have been shod with in the pre-radial era.

Everything about this model is superb. Most impressive. :D

Is this the metal kit?

I'll admit I've avoided this kit thinking it wouldn't build up nicely. I was quite wrong. What a lovely model of such a lovely car.

Ditto on all the positive comments. Color choice, finish and attention to detail such as the floor mat part of the floor being a little darker really makes this one stand above.

Beautiful looking build. Outstanding paint work and the interior is a perfect match. The instruments show well also. The first XK I ever saw was this exact color combination and I have been smitten ever since.

That really is fabulous. Has there evr been a better profile than that? You can really see why it was a sensation at the 1948 Earl's Court Motor Show, can't you? Since I have one waiting in the stash, I'd love to know a bit more about what you did to the windscreen mounting. I'd need a lot to persuade me away from Appleyard's (local hero...) NUB 120, but not having to vent the bonnet would be a powerful temptation...

Awesome, and truly inspirational...

best,

The Jag is gorgeous! You seem to have overcome the fit issues with the bonnet. The windscreen work really pays off. Excellent work.

I have this kit on the bench right now. I'm gluing the bonnet shut in an effort to preserve those sexy lines. I'm going to build the engine and display it on a stand beside the car. The work you have done on yours is inspiring.
