Dr. Cranky Posted August 19, 2008 Posted August 19, 2008 For balance, I sprayed the rear too but made that a bit less even . . .
Dr. Cranky Posted August 19, 2008 Posted August 19, 2008 I got the tires and chassis also done . . . hopefull I will be able to bring out more detail with light washes, powders and potions . . . More of the underside details . . .
RodneyBad Posted August 19, 2008 Posted August 19, 2008 I Gotta Say DamnCranky That is Wicked as Heck. That thing that made your welds is a Heat Pen/knife? And Your Bug looks Killer
Dr. Cranky Posted August 19, 2008 Posted August 19, 2008 Thanks, Zuk--yeah, it's a heat pen . . . I posted a picture on an earlier page . . .
Dr. Cranky Posted August 19, 2008 Posted August 19, 2008 The battering ram is also coming together with some detail . . .

kk916 Posted August 19, 2008 Posted August 19, 2008 If it's not to late I want to join in on this. I've got a few kits that could be put to good use in this style.
Clay Posted August 19, 2008 Posted August 19, 2008 If I had the money and the kit I would do the tanker truck, but being poor gets to ya. I will be watching this build though.
84vanagon Posted August 19, 2008 Posted August 19, 2008 Pssssst--I'm sharing this here little secrt wit ya 84, coz yer a bud, don't be tellin no one else, but all his armour is just plastic on the q/t here.... thanks for the tip ######'n. Now I know what to do with all my old Old Milwaukee cans... I'm going to dig through my boxes after dinner to find a candidate. Something will come up but it has to be B.A.M. ( Big American Metal )!
Dr. Cranky Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 Put in a long day at the workbench and got a lot done. This sucker needs to rest over night to dry real well, and then I can hit it up with my usual lotions, potions, and powders . . . it's almost done. Enjoy some of the pics.
CB Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 If it's not to late I want to join in on this. I've got a few kits that could be put to good use in this style. OK, kk916, Dyimirage has started us up early. We start postin pics on Friday, but feel free to check in at: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=13843 (it's in "on the workbench"), read the rules and add yer name to the list
84vanagon Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 Well I'm going to have to postpone my pick. I can't find the car I want to do. I found some candidates, but they're not #1. I did have some luck in finding some models I can use for parts. Plus I found some "... cool, when did I get that... stuff??". There is a KB outlet about five miles from me, I'll hit them tomorrow after work. After seeing Cranky's #2 build choice, I am wondering if speed and agility might work better than brawn.?

Dr. Cranky Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 --he's got a periscope in there . . . sonar, radar, and airconditioning!!! But when you look in your rearview mirror, this is what you might see coming up behind ya!
Dr. Cranky Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 It's an etched skull that comes in a Warhammer 40K basing kit . . . All I did was simply flow white paint over the relief skull . . . pretty darn easy.

Dr. Cranky Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 Thanks, amigo! I'm in the process of adding some more weathering to this sucker, and it is almost done. I will post pictures as soon as I get some more taken. Stay tuned in . . . these kinds of builds are just pure fun!!!
kasteer Posted August 20, 2008 Author Posted August 20, 2008 Thanks, amigo! I'm in the process of adding some more weathering to this sucker, and it is almost done. I will post pictures as soon as I get some more taken. Stay tuned in . . . these kinds of builds are just pure fun!!! You must be retired to have this much time (and you live in Florida)....
Jairus Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 You know Verg.... I never liked the later "Road Warrior" movies or "Death Race" due to the need for vast doses of suspension of disbelief... However, your build, if taken in small doses looks great and you have provided a lot of neat ideas in this thread for my other projects! I think I will be coming back from time to time. Although I doubt that I will ever build one of these road-tanks... the ideas are useful for Rat-Rods and other weathered projects. Thanks!
Dr. Cranky Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 Glad you like it, J. It means a lot to me . . . and you are right, most of these types of vehicles are a leap of faith, but boy are they fun. You are also right that a lot of these elements and techniques can be carried over to the Rat Rod world. The idea is to keep building and having fun--I mean, what else is there, right?
kasteer Posted August 20, 2008 Author Posted August 20, 2008 Well I'm dedicated now.... Just dropped $68 at the LHS for sheet styrene, tubes, metal screen... all that and I forgot the rubber cement and a new tube of glue. Good thing there's a Michaels close to the house. I think it would have been cheaper to buy a tank model and re-use all the weapons from that.
