Madhatter Posted January 8, 2019 Posted January 8, 2019 hello again everyone I have been working on this since August last year - it's the Zvezda SD - a kit which probably doesn't need any introduction. I'm on a few different forums, so likely that a few of you already know abut this build. There is a fair amount to show you, so I'll try to break it down to as little as possible for now to catch you up, but once I'm done with my side project, I will be coming back to this. It's quite draining but it'll be worth it (I hope) Starting with the engine assembly, you'll see what it looks like standard and then what t looks like after I'm done with it With some added detailing: Under paint: part 2 in a minute 3
Madhatter Posted January 8, 2019 Author Posted January 8, 2019 part 2 - the bridge (roof first) Again, first pic shows roughly what you start with then onto what I've done to it and now Under paint: Bridge face plate: The underneath of the bridge: some of the details I've added won't be seen much once it's done - but I know they're there I opened up some spaces and added detail for interest More in a minute 1
Madhatter Posted January 8, 2019 Author Posted January 8, 2019 Now for more Starting to add details: Under paint And lit up More shortly
Madhatter Posted January 8, 2019 Author Posted January 8, 2019 And now for the neck and hangar bays I'm using the Falcon 3D resin printed parts as well as some Green Strawberry PE but predominantly, the details are just bits from 1/700 ship models as well as strip styrene. The cream coloured parts are resin copies of bit I use a lot of Garbage chute installed: Altogether with paint on: And on the inside: 1
bisc63 Posted January 8, 2019 Posted January 8, 2019 Just UN-REAL how nice this is looking! Didn't know Zvezda did this kit. How big is the finished model?

How big is the finished model? thanks mate - it's roughly 60 cm when finished I keep getting a 404 error each I try to post here so hopefully I can get the last part up
Spex84 Posted January 8, 2019 Posted January 8, 2019 WOW. I would have sworn that was going to be a 4 foot long model...great detail! The primer shots look like renderings from 3D modeling software. And it looks incredible with the lighting. Looking forward to seeing more!
Madhatter Posted January 8, 2019 Author Posted January 8, 2019 I'm having real issues trying to post the last part of the WIP as I keep getting a 404 error Will try later Thanks for the comments guys - I really appreciate them
Madhatter Posted January 8, 2019 Author Posted January 8, 2019 OK, take 6 - the hangar bays - starting with the smaller front bay which is the Greenstrawberry PE parts Now for the main hangar bay - which is a mixture of Falcon 3D resin and GS PE. I'm not finished with it by a long shot and still need to add more detail to it And lastly, prepping the body ready for the sidewalls to go in and their associated fibre optics. This was not a fun task and took a while to do. You start with this And end with this And that is you up to date - in a very abridged version. I'm getting read to take some more pictures of where I am up to so will update this again soon Please feel free to ask questions! I will pre-answer one now (one I get a lot of) and that is no - the details are not film accurate and are just me adding my own flavour to it Thank you for looking in and I hope you like what you see Si
Jim B Posted January 8, 2019 Posted January 8, 2019 (edited) Amazing details, Si. That's a lot of work, and it's very well done. Edited January 8, 2019 by Jim B
r60man Posted January 8, 2019 Posted January 8, 2019 Really cool work. I have seen the larger Ban Dai kit at my local hobby shop but the price tag scared me off. After seeing this, I may make the investment.
ismaelg Posted January 27, 2019 Posted January 27, 2019 Impressive! Now we know why there is a worldwide shortage of brass...
Madhatter Posted January 28, 2019 Author Posted January 28, 2019 thanks very much everyone. I am getting ready to pick this up again so more pictures soon Thanks for your interest, and I am very sorry it's taken me so long to reply Si
Madhatter Posted July 2, 2019 Author Posted July 2, 2019 It's been a while since I last updated this but now I am back and have something to show for the time away. I spent a few months building other things like cars and now that my enthusiasm for this kit has returned. Here's where I am currently working - the top layer of the superstructure - or as others have named it, "The Wedding Cake". I am 3/4 done and will take more pics then I still have to drill out that center bit on the nose of the lower layer. I'll run some piping into it to make it more interesting. That's all I have but thanks for looking Si
Dragline Posted July 2, 2019 Posted July 2, 2019 You and the model makers of ILM have my undying respect. A masterpiece.
mustang1989 Posted July 2, 2019 Posted July 2, 2019 (edited) Blown...........away! Edited July 2, 2019 by mustang1989
