jaxenro Posted January 28, 2019 Posted January 28, 2019 Probably not a period racer but done at a later date by converting a Cadillac Model Thirty perhaps in the 1940's. I am basing my version on the Pyro Vintage Brass kit of the 1909 Cadillac Model 30 Tourer. This is sort of what I am going for except without the race numbers
bisc63 Posted January 29, 2019 Posted January 29, 2019 (edited) That is SO cool. Post progress pics! Edited January 29, 2019 by bisc63 typo
jaxenro Posted January 29, 2019 Author Posted January 29, 2019 Now that I have the kit in hand it appears the fenders are cast with the frame and major surgery will be required to remove it plus when done I'm not sure there really is a "frame" just the bottom half of it. My plan B option is the speedster version with fenders so I might default to that.
jaxenro Posted February 1, 2019 Author Posted February 1, 2019 Unlike most of the Pyro kits the frame on the Cadillac is molded with the fenders so I started by hacking them off.
jaxenro Posted February 1, 2019 Author Posted February 1, 2019 Since I will need something for the Caddy to race against I also started the Mercer Raceabout as a fenderless race version
misterNNL Posted February 3, 2019 Posted February 3, 2019 These are right in my favorite period of race cars so I'll be watching.
jaxenro Posted February 4, 2019 Author Posted February 4, 2019 A little progress on the Mercer. The seats, engine, and wheels are just placed there pending cleanup and painting. This one is almost straight out of the box except for leaving some parts like fenders off. I will try to use the paint to detail it up a little but nothing fancy.
Mike999 Posted February 5, 2019 Posted February 5, 2019 Here's a collection of photos from the Santa Monica road races, 1911-1914. Might give you some ideas...https://calisphere.org/item/ark:/21198/zz002d57jz/
jaxenro Posted February 8, 2019 Author Posted February 8, 2019 If you’re interested in this era this is a great article about the LA Motordrome and early board track auto racing and buried way down the page is a period pic of s Cadillac model 30 racer https://socalarchhistory.blogspot.com/2011/03/first-board-track-opened-at-los-angeles.html?m=1 i will have an update on the Mercer soon got pneumonia which is slowing me down a little
jaxenro Posted February 15, 2019 Author Posted February 15, 2019 (edited) Hood fits a little wonky need to play with it but all primered up and ready for some color Edited February 15, 2019 by jaxenro
jaxenro Posted February 16, 2019 Author Posted February 16, 2019 Yes the old pyro kit. Tons of flash and the “brass” is just sort of gold colored plastic but it’s still an interesting little one
jaxenro Posted February 26, 2019 Author Posted February 26, 2019 Some progress the Caddy’s up front, the Mercer in the middle needs the paint touched up, and the Airfix Mercedes is in the rear
stavanzer Posted May 12, 2019 Posted May 12, 2019 More Updates, on these please? They look too nice to be forgotten.
jaxenro Posted May 12, 2019 Author Posted May 12, 2019 I need to get back to them the Model T’s have been taking my interest up
