Flat32 Posted February 20, 2019 Posted February 20, 2019 I am intrigued by the injection molded kits in general and especially how the molds were made. More specifically the mold cavities machining that was done with 3D pantograph die sinking machines. I have one of these machines and would like to find any of the toolmakers that actually ran or run them making kit molds. I know it's a long shot since CNC and EDM have pretty much taken over in mold building, but I feel like the old school methods are worthy of documentation for historical purposes if nothing else. I have a few questions I'd like to ask that only one of these old time toolmakers could answer. Do any of you oldtimers know any oldtime moldmakers??
Flat32 Posted February 22, 2019 Author Posted February 22, 2019 Science channel just ran a short episode on how plastic model kits are made. Heller is the manufacturer featured.
