pussiwillow Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 i was wondering if anyone could show me pictures of how they channeled the body of there revell 32 ford 3 window coupe onto the frame, im stuck since ive never tried this and do now want to mess up this model thanks ahead of time
bobss396 Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 No pix, but I did one with a scale 8" channel. I took 5/16" off the bottom on the interior parts and that was about it. I had to trim the firewall and make deeper cut outs for the rear axle to move up, I also did a z-job on the rear of the frame. But taking the material out of the interior should get you going. Bob
Eshaver Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 Pretty much, if you take maybe an eith of an inch off the back where the rear end seats over the frame. You will then cut a like amount of material from the firewall area. Then take an eighth of an inch out of you're interior bucket as well. This will give you a minimal channel. Now, if you want more channel you will have to " Z" the rear of the frame rails and be more drastic in yoiu're cuts at the rear wells. . You will also have to section a little more at the firewall to accomodate an EVEN appearewnce. Hope this helps ya. Ed shaver
MikeMc Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 (edited) Repeat after me....ITS ONLY PLASTIC....it is! A wiser modeler taught me that with a bottle of tenax and a bag of evergreen You can fix anything you've done !! Channeling is quite easy....but interiors are all different ...so work on the body and frame first then add some suspension, power, and then worry about the interior..heres some pix of my '34 see how much its been cut? this is the finished cut if you watched this build you know that I cut this puppy up a dozen times or so till I was happy ... follow this link: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.p...3&hl=mikemc Edited September 16, 2008 by MikeMc
pussiwillow Posted September 16, 2008 Author Posted September 16, 2008 well i decided to do the easiest thing that i could see, and last nite i cut the front of the frame and glued it to the firewall i have to trim the firewall so the transmission can sit flush, and the interiour peice as well, i hope i dont screw up, oh well i can always fix it like you said, thanks for the replies feel free to give me any other pointers as im a newb at chopping and customizing, but not at building
jeffinvt Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 (edited) Pussiwillow, sorry I did not see this post sooner. I'll post my roadster solution, the coupe is an identical frame etc.. Keep in mind my frame has been heavily modified with a rear Z, and a raised front frame. I also changed the rear suspension, but it is esentially the same exact frame you are working with. First cut the trans tunnel from the rest of the floor, leaving the "foot board" attached to the tunnel. Next glue the foot board and tunnel in the correct position directly to the floor pan covering the cutout.. Now the body will fit over the frame, the interior panels will fit with NO cutting, and half of the firewall is done because you left the foot board there... If this makes no sense to you I can snap some extra pics to help... Edited September 17, 2008 by jeffinvt
pussiwillow Posted September 18, 2008 Author Posted September 18, 2008 ###### that looks awesome, i already messed it up, well kind of, just created alot more work for myself... i cut the frame apart and glued the front part to the firewall to make it how i wanted, and took the rear part and modified it to work, then im scratch building the rest... it would have been much easier your way... thanks for the reply tho looks good
