Luc Janssens
Had that one as a kid.
TarheelRick
If it has not been robbed of parts this one is a gold mine. The two I have (not fire chief) has two different sets of mag wheels besides the stock covers, and a pretty nice set of long-tube injectors for the big block. stavanzer
Great to see this back. Basically the recent Heavy Chevy, with cop gear and new decals. (Dekkles, as a Guy I Know calls them). I want one.

stavanzer
Man, I hope Round2 includes all the extra goodies. No Need to delete anything from the new version.
paul alflen
Very good thinking Snake45, that would be a cool box art, 1970 Chevy Police Chief Impala in front of a on -fire Dunkin Donuts? Round 2 could put out limited edition boxes with this box art maybe (1 to a case of 12 )with a cardboard cut out of a Duncan donuts shop??? JJ Deuce
the "deluxe dress up wheels" look like the PO2 wheel covers for '68-72 Corvettes and Camaros.

Rob Hall
All the optional parts (performance and custom) were in the 2015 'Heavy Chevy' reissue, this brings some unique parts--the dog dish hubcaps and fire dept lighting, etc. Though a 2dr ht Fire Chief car seems improbable, given the context of when it was originally issued, it would be a good piece to go w/ the Ford police car and Chevy police and fire vans. Robberbaron
Post fail. 404 errors
Robberbaron
I'll try to post just my first paragraph: Really hope the original-style "bowtie" poverty caps are provided! If the original tooling for those didn't survive, let's hope that Round 2 accurately recreates them, instead of throwing in some generic baby moons instead. Robberbaron
OK, so that woked...next paragraph: Those bowtie versions would be correct as the base hubcaps for converting the 1970 Z-28 kit to an SS - or a base Camaro. Pretty sure they were also the base hubcaps for Novas from about 1971? to 1974.
Robberbaron
Huh, got my final paragraph to post after I removed a set of parentheses. Maybe that's my 404 solution?

When AMT started the Fire/Police series of kits back in the '70s, it re-issued several old kits with unique fire/police parts. One that got a similar treatment was the '32 Ford Victoria "Vintage Fire Chief." All the hot rod parts were removed and the kit only built a stock Vicky. Just like with the '70 Impala, AMT tooled up some new and interesting fire accessories: helmet and gas mask, boots, fire extinguisher, first-aid kit, bullhorn, siren/lights etc. And the kit is molded in flaming red plastic. The '27 Ford T was released as a vintage police car. Though one just as fishy as a 2-door fire chief's car. That cop car had a lot of extra-cost options, like bumpers and wire wheels, not likely to be found on police cars. But AMT did leave the vintage speed equipment in the kit. And added an up-top with side curtains and windows, which have never been seen again.
Jon Cole
Hate to buy it, just to find out if the high beam lens are molded in red. Anyone?
sfhess
I see four red headlight lenses... And stubs that might hold clear ones.
Mike999
I downloaded the pic and zoomed on it. It looks like 4 clear headlight lenses are on the glass. On the clear "runners," between the windshield and back glass. At least I think those are headlight lenses.
Casey
The prior "HEAVY CHEVY" reissue in the Original Art series a few years includes the custom Cibie Euro-style rectangular headlight lenses between the 'bridges' which connect the windshield and rear window, as seen on the box bottom: *edit* Separate headlight lenses are not included (see post below). The red lenses are to be used in the roof bar mounted flashers. Edited August 17, 2019 by Casey
Can-Con
The AMT '70 Impala never had separate headlight lenses. One thing I wish they'd fix on that kit is the lower front suspension piece. The chassis under that kit originated with the '67 Impala kit and it originally had the heavy frame crossmember under the engine molded to it so it actually glued to the frame rails. Somewhere along the way it lost that for some reason and now only glues to the front springs and king pins. Makes it a weak assembly. Here's a pic of the '67 instructions showing what I mean. You can see the triangular parts sticking down under the front suspension that are no longer on the part. This part is now just flat and does not attach to the frame. [ PS, look at that ,, 4 wheel options !! you don't get that now !]
