I don't know exactly what you're asking.

The twin-blower rig was built by Romeo Palamides who formed what would become American Racing Equipment. It was even seen on a couple of drag boats.

Jack Chrisman drove the Joe Mailliard Automotive Engineering blown hemi sidewinder to a 9.05 / 151.51 on gas in 1958. The car went through a long series of rebuilds and development from '57 through 1960.

MAKING A LIST. I know about the pics, I thought they were unusual, just illustrations.

Forget it man. I was only asking if anyone was interested in a reference chart / list.

Obviously not.

Gary,

I wouldn't be too hasty. You only asked an hour ago and got one reply. I would be interested. I have come into a collection of parts and parts kits recently and will probably be getting much more over the course of the winter. I know that with a lot of it I will have no idea what it is, what kit it came from, but more importantly, what type of a build it would be historically and feasibily accurate on.

I think, if I'm following your idea, I can post a picture of a part, or even a partial tree, and someone can tell me the answers to my three points above. If that is your idea, I like it and I, for one, am in.

Its no good if people are going to argue and be know it alls and several guys here always are. Since the negativity come first thing its pretty clear what will be the result.

Im out of here.Guess why.

I couldn't tell what your post meant either. Cool pics. All Bill did was say what the pictures were, which are not easy pictures to know.

No negativity at all.  Actually we all like the idea. Your choice, but it's not on us, nobody argued.

I'll admit, I didn't understand the ask either.

And the pics aren't showing up for me.

If Tom's interpretation above is correct, then it's not a bad idea at all.

So, what should we call the Post and who wants to get it started? I just left work where most of my stash is and I don't have anything here to post a question about.

I think the Post should go something like this:

Post a pic of the part/parts and the kit it is from, if you have it. Questions would be

1. What is it? What 1:1 part does it represent?

2 What kit or kits is it from?

3. Who made the 1:1 part and for what purpose?

4. What type or style of build would it be seen on in the 1:1 world?

5. Where can I find a "Whatzit" for my build? "What is available?"

Anything else anyone can think of to include? I don't think that this should be done as a "Stump the Dummy" or trivia post. It should be a place where someone can either go to find out info on a part they have and how it would be used or a "What can I use to build this?/ Where can I find this part?"

If you start a post for this idea, make sure you put a link here so we know where to go.

As a resin caster I am very interested as well for good reason too.  Marty and I have talked about parts packs like mirrors, glass packs, etc.  We are getting busier here, We are working to de clutter the shop and make more usable and organize stuff that is model related and not boxes of BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH in a bunch of boxes.  I am just not a good organizer and I get overwhelmed very easily and lose focus.  Just like I did in this post LOL!  Anyway, I think this kind of dictionary is a great idea and can be helpful especially to someone like me who is not really a car guy.  I really don't know my ass from a hole in the ground about this stuff!

The pix posted by the OP were apparently hotlinked to sites that don't allow it, and disappeared shortly thereafter. Now the OP has taken his marbles and gone home.

While I didn't take the time to find the first OP photo, the subject was the Romeo Palamides twin-blower manifold as pictured below. Something very similar is available in the AMT '53 Studebaker kits, and would be appropriate for drag cars and boats from the late '50s until today (on a nostalgia build).

The second shot was an unusual sidewinder-configured rail. Probably the most interesting thing in the shot is the pre-Gilmer-belt chain drive for the blower. The drive to the rear axle was by chain as well. Note the hardware-store NPT plumbing for the water fill necks, etc., and the knock-off hubs on the rear wheels. The blower itself is typical of surplus and salvaged GMC units that were in wide use before the aftermarket began producing housings specifically for racing. This car was built in 1957.

Thanks for (re)posting these, Bill. I never noticed all the engine-turning, on Mailliard's 'winder. I wouldn't really care to be anywhere near that chain drive, though!

I agree with most of that, and a simple post title such as "Real Parts Reference" or something simple would probably suffice.

One other source for determining things the other way around (i.e., you have a kit part in hand, but aren't sure what it is a replica of in the real world) is vintage instruction sheets, especially '60s era AMT sheets, which often stated the real manufacturer of some included parts, as seen on this '40 Willys coupe instruction sheet page-- GMC, Enderle, Moon, and Spalding, all represented:

Heck, I didn't see it originally so I'm not sure what the deal was.  My point is, and I've discussed this with other friends I've made here - sometimes a post needs time to get some attention.  Especially with a generic title.   I am OFTEN looking for model specific or parts specific reference.   And no matter how obscure, I always hope to find a thread here.  (try hasegawa lancia stratos stradale - anyone ever built one?)

But don't get upset and delete when no one replies in the first hour.  Reminds me - I need to post up some pics of the aforementioned Lancia in case someone else is looking for reference.

Usually when the latter happens, the O.P. is guilty of the former.

While this could certainly be a useful repository of information, it also has the potential to become unwieldy very quickly.

With the severely limited editing time-window now, there's no real way to keep the posts organized alphabetically in a single thread, which strikes me as the best way to find things. Examples: blower drives; steering boxes; water pumps; etc. Individual threads labeled by subject is a possibility, but as we've already mentioned, vague and generic thread titles can be a real problem.

Another possibility is a spreadsheet format, but to be easily used, that would also need to be alphabetized, and updated as new entries appear. And I don't know if the site supports anything in a user-modified spreadsheet format.

Barring those two probably impossible options, it's going to become a real PITA to scroll through a lengthy thread in the hopes of finding some reference to a specific part...especially considering the search function that's part of the platform isn't really that great.

A possible solution would be to establish a standard formula / format for individual postings (or threads) for a set of references and photos (to make it easier for the search-function or Google to find the entry) but getting people to read and follow instructions consistently can be tiring at best, and it's generally impossible.

What am I missing?

Anybody have any good ideas??

Great info in other post, but waaaay to much info. No idea how to whittle down, but wading thru that thread after couple of pages will be onerous.

Part name, use, one snipped pic off instruction sheet, and an example photo in 1:1? No dup posts? No idea how to enforce/encourage that

What about a section similar to the Aftermarket directory section that already exists? Then under that directory heading it could be organized by category such as Engine parts, body parts, interior parts chassis parts etc?

So you place a post under whatever sub-section. Could be a start of how to categorize it. Otherwise, I think we are correct that it would become very unwieldy very quickly.

Tom this is what I was thinking but could not place the thread I wanted to have cloned.
