I crawled up into the attic above my shop and went through the boxes of stored kits and finally got inspired to pick my Cannonball entry. I've also been arguing with our puppy, she's 9 months old now, a Corgi/Jack Russell and she thinks every toy she has needs to be in the back yard and every stick in the back yard needs to be in the house. Here she is hanging out upside down with her sister, a Chihuahua/Jack Russell.

Over the last few days I’ve been casting a parts. I offered to cast some carbs for Dennis and since it’s tough to mix up only 8 drops of resin, I figured I would build up my stock of parts for future builds.😎

Those look great! Much better than my castings! Nice work.

Yesterday disassembled the 2015 Revell snap tite 1957 Bel Air as I intend to re build it after I originally built it box stock no painting  when it was new. Also got an actual vinyl top applied to my 1971 Olds 442. Some parts fell off in the process though.

Would you be interested in showing some of your molds? I've tried casting parts and am no where near your quality.

Sure.🙂 I do use a paint pressure pot that I converted to use as a vacuum chamber for degassing the silicone. And then I cast the resin at just under 60 psi pressure. I try to make one part molds whenever possible…It’s just a lot easier. After putting the resin in the mold, I cover it with a piece of perforated metal so that the pressure can get to the resin (not sure if it works better than a solid plate, but it works for me).

For some reason I can’t edit the previous post. I have a piece of plate glass that I put double sided tape on and stick my parts to it then build a dam with legos. Third pic is looking at the underside of the glass. The small mold is Dennis’s weber carbs…I had to slit that mold in order to get them out, then I put the legos back around that mold when casting. Last pic…I use a chisel blade to pry the parts off and nippers to clip any remaining nubs off. Then drag them across a large file to get them perfectly flat.

Thanks for the information. I noticed Harbor Freight has a paint pressure pot, maybe that would work for casting.

This was just a cheap pressure pot from Princess Auto. If you’re going to cast under pressure though, I think it is necessary to de-gas the mold silicone. When I first did this Willys hood it wound up with a whole bunch of goosebumps on it because the mold silicon was not degassed.

You reminded me of something! About twenty years ago a friend did resin casting. He always put the silicone in a vacuum chamber before pouring it to force bubbles out. That way when he pressure casted the parts they didn't have those bumps.

I've pretty much remedied that pesky divot in the roof of the Starliner....... I cut a hole about the size of a half-dollar in the cardboard and made a pass of primer through it. Then I made the hole larger and made another spray pass with the primer. Finally, I cut the hole roughly the size of the roof, being careful not to fill the trim with primer......

After a bit of sanding, the divot is just about gone......

Lately been simultaneously working on two builds at a time; one arguably the very first build I did (Revell's 2015 issue of the snap tite '57 Chev) and the latest which is a '66 T bird. Haven't done two at once in a very long time and I don't think I miss it. Mainly because my work area is basically room enough for one car's parts, but even with the less amount of parts the snap tite has, space is tight. Almost had it complete last night until a major set back occured. I wanted to change the wheels on the thing as it came with custom ones I didn't want to use, so the wheels left over from my '60 Impala were commissioned and I had them all done up nice, ready to fit on the metal axles and so I put them in the chassis, and then I noticed they stick out wayy to far so the skirted rear of the wheel openings would never house the wheels. So now I have to cut off some length on the rim backside, and drill the hole farther in so the axles go in deeper, and thus, the body will take to the new wheels.

The Thunderbird's coming along nicely.

Chopped a glue bomb Dick Tracy ‘36 Ford.😎 Lengthened it a bit too. Still needs to be attached to the body after a bit more work.

Got the ol' Ford in final primer today! I kinda sanded the emblems and scripts but didn't want to sand them completely away, because when I use the decals for them there will be some relief off of the body, making the scripts and emblems look more 3D........

Made myself a business card, then while doing that i had the craziest idea. i have terrible hand writing so i never filled the sheets at model car shows aside from my name, my punctuation is still bad but this is way more legible than trying to write it down. Alos made a sweet grille for my 66 olds but couldnt find the mesh to back it.

I have been trying to figure out how to make some functional hood hinges for a Toyota S800. While looking for something else at a local hobby shop, I came across some 1/16” square brass tube and some 1/32” square brass bar. I have a prototype built for proof of concept that works. I have some ideas already of how to improve it….but dang it is tiny and hard to work with.

Edit: not exactly accurate but fairly close.

Printed the frame, and some of the body parts, for an Outlaw Kart designed by @Stevens19

Couldn’t resist a real quick mock-up of the parts I’ve printed so far:

For those not familiar, Outlaw Karts are a regular go kart mixed with a sprint car…so, regular super short go-kart wheelbase but a tuned Honda 500cc bike engine, same power to weight ratio as a full-size sprint car and they race ‘em on dirt.

Still gotta print the wing, and then clean up that tiny little frame…

Here’s some really nice finished builds by the creator of the file:
