rd1959 Posted February 23, 2020 Posted February 23, 2020 Can anyone point me towards a Trans Am model where the side vents on the front fenders were separate pieces? I just ordered some new Chevy LUV models and want to recreate one into a truck I used to see running around town back in the early 80s. The truck's owner had molded those side vents into the front fenders of the truck. It looked really cool.
Mark Posted February 24, 2020 Posted February 24, 2020 The MPC Chevy Monza kits had similar pieces that attach to the fenders, but those are only the outer piece, no "vent" insert or detail in the center. It shouldn't be tough to file those out of a scrap of sheet plastic (use a T/A vent as a pattern), attach them, then trim out the insert area to create the vent.
Bainford Posted February 24, 2020 Posted February 24, 2020 Revell produced a really horrible Firebird street machine kit in the late 80s that I think had separate vent pieces.

Monty Posted February 24, 2020 Posted February 24, 2020 (edited) I'm relying on decades-old memories here but I believe the MPC '75ish Dodge Dart had those extractors as well as a set of Pontiac Firebird Honeycomb wheels as the "street machine" option. I remember seeing those as a teen and wondering what on earth would cause MPC to add GM stuff to a Mopar kit. I'd love it if one of our kit historians could explain that for us. Here's some box art I found with the Pontiac wheels. Doesn't look like they used the extractors on the box art builds, but I'd bet they're still on the sprues. Maybe you could try and get the earliest version of this kit to increase your chances of getting them. Edited February 24, 2020 by Monty

Haven't been in that kit since it was converted to a 4 door sedan.
Mark Posted February 24, 2020 Posted February 24, 2020 No fender vents in the Dart kits. It never had any.
afx Posted February 25, 2020 Posted February 25, 2020 (edited) If you find a set you like and they aren't separate you can graft them in as I did here. Edited February 25, 2020 by afx
Greg Wann Posted February 25, 2020 Posted February 25, 2020 1976 MPC Firebird formula kit has them. I can make you a resin set.
