Modlbldr Posted March 9, 2020 Posted March 9, 2020 I FINALLY finished this build!! I started this about 25 years ago. It languished for quite a while but recently decided to get it across the finish line. When I started it years ago I customized it by cutting the rear window and dropping it down creating the flying butresses and a vertical smaller rear window. I changed the wheels and glued down the flip front end. It is now a curbside. I raised up the front valance and installed a custom grille and also six taillights using aluminum tubing. I also included the side pipes from a 68 427 Vette kit. The paint is a coat of Testors Black Metallic with a mist coat of Testors Silver Blue Metallic over the upper portions for a two tone. This one became nothing special except for that I finally finished it. Hope you like it. Later-
Koellefornia Kid Posted March 9, 2020 Posted March 9, 2020 Nice interpretation of this old kit! I like it!
spencer1984 Posted March 10, 2020 Posted March 10, 2020 That's an awesome looking Corvette, nice job!
Modlbldr Posted March 10, 2020 Author Posted March 10, 2020 (edited) Thanks guys. No where near as nice as I wanted it but it feels good to have it done and on the shelf. Plus now I have half a box of extra parts. Lol! I'd like to eventually find some side mirrors for it. I had a set located the other day but, as always, when it came time to paint them and put them on they decided to relocate themselves. Later- Edited March 10, 2020 by Modlbldr
Gramps46 Posted March 10, 2020 Posted March 10, 2020 Congratulations on finishing your special build. It certainly was worth the wait.

Snake45 Posted March 10, 2020 Posted March 10, 2020 Since this once-nice kit can no longer be built as a "stock" Mako Shark, there is no reason NOT to build it any way you want, as any way you build it will be a "phantom." I like what you did with this one! (I'm hoping to do mine as what a '68-'72 Corvette might have looked like if Chevy had gone with the Mako Shark for the '68 instead of heavily modifying the shape.) Well done and model on!
Modlbldr Posted March 10, 2020 Author Posted March 10, 2020 Thanks! I really liked this body style and wouldn't mind finding another one of these kits to see if I could build it more like I had in mind from the begining. Later-
Sam I Am Posted March 10, 2020 Posted March 10, 2020 Great job Tom. I really need to get back on my old build from 1979...?
Rich Chernosky Posted March 10, 2020 Posted March 10, 2020 That is a very cool interpretation on that old kit. Like the paint. When you wait 25yrs you are pretty sure it is cured.

Rocking Rodney Rat Posted March 12, 2020 Posted March 12, 2020 Nice build-up of the olde Mako Shark (or what was left of it). I have a bunch of Mako parts around here somewhere...this would be a kit I'd like to see re-issued in it's original glory (most likely not possible now...).... -RRR
