crispy Posted October 27, 2008 Posted October 27, 2008 I want to thank Rey for all his help so far. I'm getting there Rey! Been working on this off and on. Ran into a bunch of disappointing problems concerning the body. Of course one cut here one cut there and then a mess of styrene all over. Fujimi really screwed the pooch on this particular "Challenge" body. It appears they threw whatever available bodies they had left in this short run kit. Instead of throwing another $30 on a correct Challenge kit I decided to utilize my "modeling" skills. Or better yet, see what skills I have acquired. What was going to be a box stock build, straight from the box if you will, has turned into a full blown detail mess now. Anyway, Fuel filler door filled. New fuel filler holes drilled on each side of the body. Rear bumper cut off and re-sized to accommodate the correct Challenge rear tail light section. Cut out the engine window vents. Drilled holes for the exhaust tips. Here's the car I'm trying to replicate: Here's where I'm at on the kit: So, that's where it sits now. Be back on it on Tuesday again. Chris

Ohh that is a clear sign of infection with the "overcomplicaditis" disease. As you may have heard, there is no cure, so ENJOY! That is looking really good my friend! Let me know if I can be of any help. Thanks,

crispy Posted April 1, 2009 Author Posted April 1, 2009 Just one small update. The 430 is now in a base fluorescent red. Its been wet sanded and will be ready for its first shot of Scalefinishes Ferrari Rosso Scuderia. Hopefully next week sometime. Here's a shot of it just out of thepaint booth: Chris
Plasticfanatic Posted April 1, 2009 Posted April 1, 2009 WOW, this is looking great!! I share your sentiment about Fujimi lack of effort to go the "extra mile" in making the correct modifications and parts to this special issue racing models. But for what I can see you have taken care of that, this one is looking superb, can't wait to see it finish!! Fred
crispy Posted April 4, 2009 Author Posted April 4, 2009 So, I happened to be perusing Zoom-Zoom's (Bob Downie) Fotki when I noticed he had a F430 Challenge car sitting with a regular F430. After looking at all the pics I noticed a few more things with my car. Well, I got a great deal on a Fujimi Challenge 430. I know why it was such a great deal, the body was so badly warped that even hot water and twisting wasn't helping. So, I started cutting again. I utilized the rear valence from the Challenge car. I'll be cleaning and prepping that piece for inclusion on my build. I also made a template of the hood of the Challenge car so that I could get a couple of hood pin holes into my hood. With all of that done it will now look much closer to an actual Challenge car. So, I must thank Bob for the great photo's on his fotki pointing out the differences. That helped me big time. Chris As you can see the top portion is the correct Challenge piece whereas the bottom one is street use. I'm much happier with the new piece.
