Modlbldr Posted June 17, 2020 Posted June 17, 2020 So, I am looking for some tires like the ones in the pics below. I am thinking of ordering some from Modelhaus tires unless I can find some in a kit. My problem is I cannot seem to contact anyone at Modelhaus tires. Does anyone know which would be best or a kit that has ones like the pics? Later-
Mark Posted June 17, 2020 Posted June 17, 2020 Are you looking for a specific brand tire, or just wide whitewalls? A number of Revell kits include tires with separate whitewall inserts, a number of Round 2 AMT kits include tires with printed wide whitewalls. The Round 2 tires are available in a separate pack of eight tires.
Modlbldr Posted June 17, 2020 Author Posted June 17, 2020 (edited) I'm not looking for a specific brand (although what I have read in some of the photos mentions Coker tires). What I need is a lower profile sidewall than the standard Revell kit tires that I've seen. The tires pictured are a wider than average tire too. So a fat lower profile wide whitewall tire. If anyone has a photo of the tire they are recommending on a build, that may be helpful too. I want to use them on my 49 Ford. Later- Edited June 17, 2020 by Modlbldr
stitchdup Posted June 17, 2020 Posted June 17, 2020 I think the amt part pack has what you're looking for. It has a set each of wide whites and white pin stripe
Spex84 Posted June 17, 2020 Posted June 17, 2020 I don't see anything low profile about the tires pictured! Do you mean thinner whitewalls? If you want tires that feel "fatter" than the AMT pad-printed whitewalls from Round 2, the Revell tires with white plastic inserts might be what you're looking for. They can be found in the '50 Ford pickup, the '59 Impala, and others. If you want a tire with thinner whitewalls (but thicker than a pinstripe "pinner" whitewall), the BF Goodrich Silvertowns in the AMT '57 Chrysler 300 might do the trick (not sure what other kits include these tires). They're a little on the large-diameter side though. Here's a model I started a while ago that uses both of the above-mentioned tires (Revell in front, AMT Silvertowns from the '57 Chrysler out back): Other kits that include whitewalls with inserts that are perhaps thinner than the AMT pad-printed whitewalls are the AMT '62 T-bird convertible and the Lindberg '53 Ford.
StevenGuthmiller Posted June 18, 2020 Posted June 18, 2020 (edited) Some of the best white walls that I've ever encountered were the old Satco whitewalls. Not available anymore except through Modelhaus tires as a resin copy. The main features that I really like about them are the fact that the whitewall insert is not just a flat piece of white plastic. It has depth, which helps the wheel seat deeper into the tire as it should. In addition to that, the insert also has a recessed lip for the wheel to seat into making the wheel appear flush with the sidewall, also more realistically than most kit tires. They are lower profile and much wider than the typical Firestone Deluxe type tires that are found in the Revell kits and available in the AMT parts packs. Plowboy Posted June 18, 2020 Posted June 18, 2020 (edited) Tom, it kinda sounds like you're looking for something like these fronts. These are the Revell Good Year SCS's with painted whitewalls. They come in the '32 Ford kits as well as others. They have a recess in the sidewall that makes them easy to mask and paint. Edited June 18, 2020 by Plowboy

Roger, That is exactly the look I want! Are you talking about the Revell 32 Ford 3 and 5 window kits? What did you paint the sidewall with? I guess I didn't explain the "lower profile" better. The ones Roger (Plowboy) posted above do not have the tread carry over to the sidewall like the ones that were pictured by ones like Steve (StevenGuthmiller) pictured. Thank you everyone. Later-

Those are the ones. I painted mine with Plasti Kote White primer. But, any acrylic flat white will work. I mask the tire and use the recess as a guide to cut the tape, spray, remove the tape and then paint the recess/sidewall with acrylic flat black ( Model Masters ) using a small brush.
Modlbldr Posted June 18, 2020 Author Posted June 18, 2020 Thanks Roger! Your pickups look fantastic. I'll give this method a try and see how it turns out. If nothing else, I'll mail you my tires and have you paint them. Lol. Later- 30 minutes ago, Plowboy said: Yes. Those are the ones. I painted mine with Plasti Kote White primer. espo Posted June 18, 2020 Posted June 18, 2020 For wheels and tires like the photos I think that the Pegasus #1125 Chrome reverse wheel & tire combo might be the best. I have used them a few times and the bolt circle area even looks like the photo of the '51 Ford. Round 2 has issued another great set under the AMT brand and many hobby shops do carry them, I try and grab a set when ever I see them. Next, the Revell '56 Chevy Del Rey kit had a nice set of wide whites in an OEM style 6.70x15 tire. You might put out a request on the "Wanted" section on the forum if you can't find anything else that would work.
