The Creative Explorer Posted October 30, 2008 Posted October 30, 2008 A new finished project, All went quite well, although the fit isn't the best, it was workable. The idea was to make a roundie-round with Tang sponsorship. I am not very familiar with NASCAR, so I just went a little bit my own way. But when I wanted to finish the paintjob with clear, things went horribly wrong. The paint wrinkled quite a lot, which was really weird. I used the same paints as usual and no problems at all! So quite frustrated, as this was a one-off paint/decal job, which I could not redo. So I ended up sanding down the clear, redo it, sanding, redo, sanding and finalized it, since there was no hope at being satisfied. The plastic even had crazed, which you can see in the pictures. So I decided to finish it, and learn from it. What I had to learn I don't know, but I do learned it
The Creative Explorer Posted October 30, 2008 Author Posted October 30, 2008 Because I did wanted to know if the paint was bad, I did the same paintjob on a new body; It went on just smooth Same cans! Completely different result
The Creative Explorer Posted October 31, 2008 Author Posted October 31, 2008 I know my paintjob sucks, but no comments at all?
made007 Posted November 1, 2008 Posted November 1, 2008 I know my paintjob sucks, but no comments at all? did you shake well the cans? did you polished after paint jobb?
randx0 Posted November 1, 2008 Posted November 1, 2008 I like the idea and the colors. painting can be a mysterious monster there are so many variables that it is hard to know what went wrong perhaps the bottom layers of paint weren't completely dried or perhaps the top coat was too thick sometimes you can add coats right away but if you wait too long between coats the paint has started gassing out and you have to wait a couple of days (or weeks)before you add more paint .there should be directions for use on the can it helps to read those from time to time because we tend to forget how some paints are supposed to be used.good luck keep having fun!
The Creative Explorer Posted November 3, 2008 Author Posted November 3, 2008 The only BIG difference was that there was only a day for the Skoda to be painted in varnish, and months for the GTO. Look at this picture, how good it looks, while it is still the same paints! But thanks, I like the idea too, just not like the paintjob
Bluzboy66 Posted November 21, 2008 Posted November 21, 2008 I like the concept of your GTO stocker. I know how frustrating it can be when paint goes wrong. I usually box everything up and set it aside until I work up the energy to redo it. At least you went ahead with the build. I gotta hand it to you and your stick-to-it-ness. All in all, I like the way your GTO turned out. If the fouled paint really bugs you, how about swapping out the wheels and tires for some dirt track versions, and trying some weathering techniques on it the car to add a grimy, dirty race-worn look?? That would be very cool! Mike
Nick F40 Posted November 21, 2008 Posted November 21, 2008 I like em, I think the paint is fine, just make sure they are warm and shaken enough. Nice GTO, it is certainly different but is cool, what's the rad hatch?
