midwest 1953 Posted September 11, 2006 Posted September 11, 2006 These were available from Auto World for Phil Jensens Holmes wrecker conversion. Of course AutoWorld is long gone. Does anyone still sell these? Does anyone know what size they were? All I remember was that they were straight-cut slot car gears. Mainly I'm looking for the outside diameter.
crashalot2 Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 I don't know about the ones you are talking about but the gears in the KFS holmes 750 kit are 1 inch. Hope that helps
midwest 1953 Posted November 1, 2006 Author Posted November 1, 2006 Thanks, This is about the size I guessed at. I didn't expect too many answers on this, most of the folks on this forum probably weren't born when the original article was written. Now if I can find a source for similar gears I'll be on the way.
crashalot2 Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 You may look in the RC car part of a hobby shop , also look at the train parts there is lots of neet things in that part of the store you can use on trucks. Good luck. Let me know if you can not find them .
SpreadAxle Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007 Thanks guys. I just found the Phil Jensen article the other day. and you're right, It's 5 years older than I am. I started building models in 1990 at age 12. I once found an Auto World Catalog by accident, so I bought it. It was their 1991 catalog. I never knew they went under. It is from that catalog that I ordered the book I teasingly call the Bible(Old testament). Building Model Trucks by Phil Jensen. I love that book. Now, I will just have to find those gears. My favorite Pittsburgh, PA area hobby shop closed(or moved), so I have to find another. A.B. Charles and son was the name, in Dormont, PA. Anyhow, if someone can give me a brand name on the gears they use, that would be great. Thanks. If anyone knows of other conversion articles Phil has done, could you pass them along? I love his work.
