I am in the process of doing a giant sized Diorama for a county fair display

its going to be a 1-25th scale half mile dirt oval race track and will take up almost a quarter of the floor of one of the fairgrounds display barns on the fairgrounds

the American legion Post #24 ownes the fairgrounds and the race track and has joyfully agreed to let me do the diorama at no charge! Heres what I am planning and tell me what you all think!

The track will be boarded on the back stretch with trees and a board fence, the tall fence will be plastered with sponsors placards with a sign in the center of the back strtch with this sign

WELCOME TO THE

NEWBERRY FAIRGROUNDS

SPEEDWAY

RACING EVERY SAT NIGHT BEGINNING AT 8

Then the grandstands on the front stretch the pits in the infield with a full field of Late Model Sportsmen lined up on the starting grid for the beginning of their main event

Also in the infield will be the trailers and haulers for the competitors and some pickup trucks

along with a few passenger cars

but the main thing I am concentrating on aer the "Skeeeter" cars on the track, I hope to have a full starting grid on the track as though in the middle of the main event.

The flagman will be waving a yellow flag because right in front of the flagstand a skeeter will be in the process of flipping, the wheels off and flying the body smashed the motor hanging out of the engine compartment and the car in the air (I will use one of the old destroyed EMS cars for the wreck) I already have a concession stand, a combo scorers booth/flag stand, tow truck, water truck, rest rooms, grill, picnic tables and a track security/ officials vehicle.

Now I need a police car and an ambulance to complete the assemble.

The track wont be a problen,

what I need from my club brothers and sisters are pictures of some racers you have built to display at the diorama,

proper credit will be given!

Hey Squirt,

Sounds like a very ambitious project. Looks like you are well on your way with all the details and landscaping. As for skeeter pictures, I do not have any builds of skeeters but a google search turned up these:

Don't know if that'll help much but if you need suggestions on landscaping, signage or track building, please feel free to post some questions here...along with progress pics of course!

Hopefully someone else here has some better ideas. Try the race car section of the forum.
