Len Woodruff
Has anyone done a "Virtual" On-Line model car show? If you have is there anything out there like Google to use for people to upload their photos and to allow voting? Thanks in advance for your help. stitchdup
cactus modellers did theirs online last year but that was a judged show. as for somewhere to allow voting, that can be done on proboards forums but they need a photo host like flickr or similar. On the forum I admin we have votes every month so if you decide to use proboards I can happily help you setting up votes by sending you a guide on setting up votes. tim boyd
A certain well-known model car builder and resin parts caster organized what he called a "Virtual Mini NNL" several weeks ago with four other model car builders. Very interesting experience. In the format he used, probably a max of about 5 people is about the limit for the "show and tell/question and answer" format. In some ways it reminded me of the first-ever NNL in Tom Woodruff's garage with six participants, although there was no way for participants to consume Karen Woodruff's awesome "NNL Bars" while they checked out each others' projects... I can see this variations of this idea becoming a much more common occurrence among model car builders in the future....TIM
bobthehobbyguy
One option is to have FSM run it as an event. Although it's listed as a contest the NNL West is being run as an NNL. https://finescale.com/online-extras/contests/2021/01/nnl-west-2021-shelter-in-place-builds-show-and-contest?utm_source=Yesmail&utm_medium=email&utm_email=hotcarsmag@att.net&utm_campaign=News0_FSM_210127_000000

Danno
DESERT SCALE CLASSIC has been a critically-judged championship for 17 years, following in the 15 year footsteps of the Copper State Championship after its demise. Last April, due to Covid, DSC was virtual. It was a novel, innovative approach, and the first international online competition. Risky as the unknown can be, dscV16 turned out to be very well received and very successful. Covid seemingly won't let go, so DESERT SCALE CLASSIC will again be a virtual venue. The dscV17 website is up and running. We're planning to conduct our event in April - as we have for ten years. As an aside, we selected April as the event's calendar home so as to not intrude upon or interfere with anyone else's event. Only the NNL East was being held in April, but we figured we wouldn't be a threat to their participant base given the geographic distance. Even so, we talked with NNL East first, to assure we weren't stepping on any toes. [NNL West was held in February.] Although our main event is critically-judged by a panel, there is an aspect of the event that is peoples' choice / popular choice: you can call it "Judge the Judges." We run a separate contest-within-the-contest for our club members and we invite the championship entrants to vote on the models entered by our club members. The voting is limited to the championship entrants, so there's no electronic ballot-stuffing. These are some of the ways we reinforce the integrity of our event: there's no 'good-old-boy' trophy exchanging at DESERT SCALE CLASSIC, a reputation that dogged some other contests in past years. We're proud of dscV16 and how it lived up to our criteria and expectations. We're going to "Do It Again." We're proud to present dscV17. We invite everyone to check our website and see what we're doing and how we're doing it. Edited January 31, 2021 by Danno

I fully intend to participate again in April. 1 hour ago, Danno said: so there's no electronic ballot-stuffing. I saw the "ballot stuffing" phenomenon first hand at another online show that I attended last year. It's a pretty lousy optic, and I won't be participating in that one again. But you can be assured that the boys at the Desert Scale Classic are on the up and up! Good luck with the upcoming event Danno!
