stevehansen Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 I just replaced my 5 year old Canon S50 with a Sony DSC-W150, $179 @ Office Depot. I took these photos with it's close up macro, no flash, no tripod, and with shop flourescent lighting. I cropped them on Windows Vista photo gallery. Really easy!!!
RyanSilva Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 Fantastic! Those look impressive. I plan on a new camera this christmas, mine will be the canon a590 with the lens adaptor..so i can buy some big lenses
RadRidesByDan Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 Excellent pics. the color is sharp and crisp. Nice choice in camera I have the Cannon PowerShot A520 and it also has a great Macro close up.
Brett Barrow Posted December 6, 2008 Posted December 6, 2008 Hate to thread-jack, but do you remember what paints you used on the Repsol Honda? I've wanted to do that bike for years, but can't find a good flourescent orange for the wheels, or a metallic blue I like for the fairings. Like the camera, too, are you using auto-white balance? I have an older Fuji FinePix and I have to manually set my white balance when I take model photos, my workbench is one setting and my new light booth is another, and when I leave it on auto for "normal" type photos it's fine, but workbench pics are green(I use "daylight" bulbs) and light booth pics are orange, I would love to have a camera I could just leave on full-auto all the time. Plus, that's great close-up with no tripod.

You have A LIGHT BOOTH??? Hell, all I have is a spray booth (although it's a big one). I have no room in my ancient, diminutive basement for a light booth. Maybe in the next house...
E St. Kruiser50 Posted December 6, 2008 Posted December 6, 2008 I'm in the market for a new camera too. I'll check it out. Thanks for posting this - dave

Since I only rattle can, the best I could come up was to spray the wheel with PlastiKote Odd's n Ends Tangerine and while still wet dust it with Rustoleum Flourescent Orange. Fairing was Model Master Laquer 28115 Bright Aqua Pearl.

I built one of these http://www.briansmodelcars.com/tutorials/tutorial/91 (cost more than $20 though!) I thought about making a folding version using the foamcore hinges we sell for making science project displays- I didn't glue mine together in case i ever need to take it apart.

Thanks, I tried every flourescent orange hobby paint I could find and none of them would cover evenly over the wheels, I was spraying over white, though, maybe next I'll try an orange base.

Gray Smith Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 Steve, thanks for the info on the camera...I had a nice Canon IS that I bought back in 07 but my ex took it when she left, thing is I could never take good macros with it compaired to the ones I'd take with a friend Kodak camera...I'll be looking into this sony when I've got some "me" money Thanks Gray p.s. question, does this use the sony memory stick media? I don't mind that but I prefer a good ole sd card in my cameras..
RyanSilva Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 (edited) Sony uses there own memory stick called Duo. Its smaller tan SD and most of sony cameras do not accept SD cards. I stick to canon for that very reason. Canon a590 is 109 bucks at newegg.com, pretty much the best bang for buck you can possibly get. Plus they make a lens adapter ring for it, to use 52mm camera lens! Hello fisheye and macro. Edited December 8, 2008 by RyanSilva
