arby1949 Posted December 3, 2008 Posted December 3, 2008 nearly finished my gto/el camino hybrid. wheels are from a '70 chevelle, seats and door panels are from a '70 cuda, basic stock 389 with scratch built induction manifold and aluminum stacks. ralleye stripes from the '69 z28 (thanks elliot945). vinyl top from model car garage. lots of fun to build even with some minor fit issues under the hood.
RichCostello Posted December 3, 2008 Posted December 3, 2008 Looks very cool!!!! What made you decide to use the 66 El Camino rather than the 65?
arby1949 Posted December 3, 2008 Author Posted December 3, 2008 Thanks Ricco, there just seemed to be more "66s around and I got a good deal on e-bay.
Car Crazy 81 Posted December 4, 2008 Posted December 4, 2008 Arby1949- Nice Build Looks Great Im Building The Same Concept Except Im Using A 67 Cutlass Body I Named It "Oldscamino" Its In The Workbench Section In The Forum. The GTO Is It A AMT Or Revell Kit.
arby1949 Posted December 4, 2008 Author Posted December 4, 2008 thanks, it's an AMT kit, I used the chassis from the el camino.
randx0 Posted December 5, 2008 Posted December 5, 2008 I like these phantom body styles when they are done well and yours is done well .I also like your choice of engine and the custom route .what body parts came from the goat and what came from the el camino?sometimes these conversions seem easy until it all has to come together any problems getting it all into a cohesive unit?
arby1949 Posted December 6, 2008 Author Posted December 6, 2008 thanks, i cut the gto at the top of the windshield and along the rear deck. i used the roof from the el camino and of course the bed and tailgate, all in one unit and also ended up using the chassis because it has better detail. i had to narrow the roof toward the front so it would match up with the top of the windshield. i had a rear bumper on it from a '61 ranchero that looked much better than the el camino bumper that's on it now, but somehow my dog took a liking to it and chewed the end off. if i can get another ranchero bumper, i will probably replace it. the firewall and dash are from the gto, and i took the console from the el camino. it was fun to build something different, thanks again for your feedbaack.
arby1949 Posted December 6, 2008 Author Posted December 6, 2008 oh, yeah i had to narrow the chassis a little on the sides and do a little filing and cutting on the radiator shroud and inner fender wells, but nothing major. the gto battery should be on the driver's side
