Mark
If the chrome paint looks so much like chrome, why do they have to plate the cap instead of just painting it with the paint itself?

Exactly. And they told me it would look just like the cap. Whatever right?
Mark
OLD Duplicolor caps were made of metal, and were painted with the actual paint that was inside the can. It could be done with the cheapo plastic cap...just mold it in primer gray ABS plastic and shoot it with the color. Truth in advertising. None of the so called Chrome spray cans are Chrome. Just shiny silver Very true on the chrome, however it does work really well if you want a more subdued chrome for a weathered vehicle or just to tone down the kit chrome. The toy like kit chrome is just not right on an old dirty work truck or rusty car.
jchrisf
The chrome paint doesn't make a great chrome paint but it does make a great base for a candy coat. Edited September 11, 2021 by jchrisf

Rocking Rodney Rat
I use the Duplicolor 1699 part #, light grey primer. The 1700 part # primer is a darker grey and doesn't sand very well it, seems to stay a bit tacky and gums up the sandpaper, while 1699 sands to dust, easier to use. I haven't had an issues with any paints over that primer. My $.02 and worth both pennies... -RRR
