So I picked up a old project of mine..  originally intended to be a tribute to the Blackout SS. As the owner, a Swedish car magazine guru Bostic, put it pack in the day on his website “Home of the Quickest, Fastest and Heaviest Street driven Impala SS on the Planet!” www.blackout.nu

Bostic is a lovely guy and when I contacted him back then he even sent me a t-shirt with the Blackout SS on, and I promised to send a picture back when the impala was done.. problem was it never got done. It snowballed for my 13-year-old self, with brass cage and front sub frame, and since I had no god solder it was a mission impossible, custom rear end that did not work, so it got cut away and a C5 corvette rear end was being mocked up in there.. so you can bet the original chassis is a mess and well beyond saving. The interior got a center console and planned to have a floor shifter as the ‘96 cars have. Seats was thrown out and a set of supra seats was supposed to sit in their place.
Some body mods were also made, boot was opened and started to build the interior, allot trims was removed, and front bumper got openings more like the Bostic Impala and a different shape.

The new plan for 2021 is to use a full chassis from the Revell ‘67 Chevelle with mods to accommodate the wide and long Impala boddy chassi will also normal bracing in the front for a drag car, will se on front suspension if it will be the Chevelle, Impala or some thing else. I will try to keep the interior, need to get hold of stock front seats, but move the back seat forward so I get clearance for the tires and so they remain centered in the opening.

Tires are a different thing, I don’t like the look of the AMT tires that I have but they are better size than the Revell tires which would need the back seat to go even further forward. I see if I find something that I like better.. Front wheels I am not sure of yet, have a 1/24 funny car coming in soon that have the same wheels as Bostic run so I might go with them.

Engine will be a truck LS with automatic trans, LS6 intake and a procharger.

This might be a slow progress build, depending on how I feel when building it.

And a big thanks to stitchdup in Scotland for sending me a spare boddy, my missing lamp and all the glas!

Seen bellow on the table is the AMT chassi from the ’67 Chevelle kit. I intended to use this and even cut it to try go get it to fit but its so little C chape over the rear end so it got replaced by the Revell one.

The cut Revell chassis with the huge take outs for tires. Original ‘94 impala front suspension placed in the 67 frame.. odly enough, it almost fits.

The planned stance, will see if i can get it this low:

Here the seat can be seen that have ben cut out and placed back in again but about "2 inches forward.

Made some engine progress.. ho knew that Revell truck engine is way different than C5 z06 engine. Here is a hybrid with corvette cylinder heads, truck block, pulleys and sow on. Not a perfect match need to re think that. But C5 Z06 sump worked fine. Will se if I need to chopp transmissions of..A241B2B5-DE8B-4EEC-A51E-38DAE338A2D8.thumb.jpeg.419f80cda4b4a626e3fd75f7725269fa.jpeg43A499E2-C490-4316-93D5-6B06D73FF7C9.thumb.jpeg.3ded4d05d16d71316e2abce1ac396399.jpeg

Oh boy…. this is going to be good!!
Anton, do everything you can to achieve that mock up stance, it’s wicked! I’ll be watching this one closely. Engine choice looks real nice. Of course, you had me at “pro street”…

Hehe, Yes it will be good, have been thinking of this for a while.. proboably because of your's and Ghost_33's builds ;) SO I do blame you a bit for this ;) :D Always nice with inspiration :)

Will try to keep that stance, but I will need to get the chassi to come up more, body lover over the chassi. Even thinking if the way is to chop the orinal interior floor out. glue the tunnel directly to the chevelle board and smothen it with putty as if there is carpet.

Thansk for your comment! I apriciate it!

Thanks for all the coments!

Anton, for lowering the body over the chassis, I have often sectioned the bottom of the interior door panels, then reattached them to the interior floor. It’s a bit of work, but yields the low stance. That area is usually hard to see once a kit is built.  Of course it would depend on the shape/detail of the door panels, all kit bashes have their nuances. I know you have the talent, so whichever way you go it will be sweet. KEEP IT LOW!!

Cheers, Steve

Made some progress I cut slots in the interior floor board and gave it some grinding which made enough clearance for the Chevelle chassis to come all the way up with the tubs to the shelf/divider to the trunk. Also managed to stuf it way forward so it looks kind of centered. The rest I think I can sort with the suspension. But I need to test it with the glas in it to see where it comes. But I have glued the Chevelle pan to the impala interior so I can get on with fabricating. And the stance seem to be there still :-)

Also made some engine progress, sawed of the 5,3 front cover and made space for a Camaro LS1 front cover with accessories. Have no belt though so I will have to make a set from a Silverado one combined with the C5 ls1… allot of fiddling there but it’s just plastic.. at work I calculated lifting points for recovery today for a 170 ton machine so altering some plastic can’t be that hard ??

cannonball in the background while working.

Chassis is tucked and looks good.

might have to go with these seats if I can’t find a set of stock ones. Might mod them though to look more like a Impala seat with the headrest.

Beast of a project you have going. If your not crazy about the Chevelle tires check the tires on the 69 GTX Pro street..

Thanks! Yes I am not overly found of the AMT ones but they are a better fit than the Revell which are to big. How is the size in comparison with the AMT Chevelle tires? Found a resin tire I would like to run but have no printer.. maby I can convince @Ghost_33 to print me a set ?

Man, this looks awesome as a Pro Street car! Looking forward to following the build and can’t wait to see it finished.

I’m a bit nostalgic about these SS Impala’s. One of my good friends had a low miles, mint condition teal ‘96 SS about 15 years ago. Only modifications were dark window tint and Flowmaster exhaust. He was fanatical about keeping it perfect. He kept towels covering the carpet at all times and if we were out to lunch he wouldn’t let us get refills on our drinks to go. ?

Right, don’t it! Thanks! Will try to keep it interesting when it happens.

haha, sounds like he was not really enjoying it but nice to hear about it ?

I think these are great looking cars and I have always had a fascination for these.

I have a desicion to make. I have no complete belt setup, the one I tried on is for my LS1 ‘98 Camaro build which I can’t rob. So I tried to build a hood setup with some corvette spares, a 5,3 truck accessory drive.. looks decent. I have an other engine as well, a AMT LT5, would also be cool with supercharger and definitely period correct if that ever would be a concern of mine ?

top left, custom with C5 placement, missing the AC which a full-size 4 seater needs.  Top right it LS Camaro. Bottom is silverado LS (LQ) 5,3.

Anny suggestions, LS or LT5…??

LS6 or LT5? Please give me your opinon :)

Sems like the AMT engine need some work to look as good as the Revell LT5 engine wich i also have but its huge du to the scale difference.

I think that i have decided on engine. The monogram ZR1 engine and the AMT one is almos identical in length, just that the Monogram is way better in detail. And if remember correctly.. I already mocked up this engine back in the day for this build. :D I have two issues though, one head seams to be glued on not straight, and this being a glue bomb engine its not easy to se where it should have gone, but i might use the PE blade and cut them of and glue them back better aligned. O and the serpentine belt is wasted... will have to make some thing about that.

I cut the manual trans of and installed a TH400 from the AMT´70 Monte Carlo low rider kit i have, much more dragracing friendly than ZR1 trans. Have also been playing around with the front part of the frame, more on that in an other post when its there.

The supercharger in the mockup is equivalent to a Procharger "12 for race use only ;)

Since I am a libra things might change back and forward some times.. this happened to the engine now. I have decided to go with LS power in stead! But i will make a new better looking intake so the LS looks better. Will also do something about the boring LS valve covers.
I have also been thinking of the front end, to swap in a C5 corvette.. but not sure. would be more in line with the Bostic impala to go with the "stock" front end.

I found a tubular front kmember and aarms In my parts bin from an old C5R so that seems to solv some of my problems at the front end with clearance. And it seems plausible to have the ride height I want, as long as I manage to route the exhaust, side pipes are not an option ?

The plausible ride height, a front runner of clearance under the frame rail:

This is progressing nicely Anton. No bad choice with your engines there. That turbo should get it moving along…

Thanks! I will go with the LS because it feels like it has more aftermarket parts so in such a car it would make more sense than a LT5 which in many cases is like a unicorn ? ye that supercharger size is way capable!

Cool looking project, but I personally would not supercharge that ZR1 engine. Especially with a charger like that. If you want forced induction with that engine, go turbos.
