Simon Posted January 2, 2009 Posted January 2, 2009 Happy new year, everybody. I've just returned from my local branch of Hobbycraft with a few essentials. I also picked up these really good looking self-adhesive gemstones, which I think will look good as marker lights and tail lights on trucks. You can get all different colours, so I got a pack of amber and a mixed pack. The smaller ones are about 3mm across, and the large ones are about 6mm. The small and medium ones will be great as marker lights on the side of a truck and trailer, or rear reflectors, while the big blue and red ones might work as grille lamps on a police car. Both sets cost me UK pounds 1.99 each. I'm off now to stick some on my never-ending k100 build!
Eshaver Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 Simon, you say that the jewels are aproximately 3mm across? Humm........ see, I build service stations (Petrol stations to you sir) and here in the states back in the early 1930's we had several oil companies that had "Jeweled" globes you would have to see one of these beauties lit up in someones den ! A sight to behold sir ! Can you imagine a metal frame with a Pratts Motor sprit or B P encased within one of these globes ? Trust me the possibilities are endless here . How bout P M ing me as to where I could reach you to perhaps get a sheet of these pieces? Ed Shaver
novadose71 Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 Hey Ed, I got a bag of blue ones at Hobby Lobby that I used for blue dots on my Big T. They had several colors and sizes.
Ramble Tamble Posted January 10, 2009 Posted January 10, 2009 hmmm if they are small enough maybe they would make good side marker lights for the 1968 revell charger
Harry P. Posted January 10, 2009 Posted January 10, 2009 Hobby Lobby has those in different sizes too. They're not self-adhesive, though... they come in little plastic bags. They're in the jewelry supplies aisle, which is a great aisle to find all sorts of stuff that can be used to detail models. If you've never checked out the jewelry aisle at Hobby Lobby, make sure you do. You'll be amazed at how much stuff in that aisle lends itself to detailing model cars.
