Due to peteski nasty comments talking to me like a 5 year old after 60 years of modelling I'm off Goodbye

I would hate to see this happen. I have always enjoyed looking at your builds and have always found any interaction with you to be pleasant and friendly.

I agree with Mike.

I have to say that I got sideways with a member of our (Tiny, no more than 15 members) Model Club about 12 years ago. I held a grudge and would not talk to him, for a couple of years. This was all 'Real Life, 1 to 1" stuff. The blame was probably 50/50, but I was the one who started it.  I finally settled down, and apologized and we are friends again.

Modeling (and the kerfuffle's it provokes) reminds me of an old joke about teachers that my Mom tells. Mom is a retired Teacher.

"You know why infighting amongst Teachers is so Nasty?  Because the stakes are so Low!"  Ba/Dump Bump...

Modelers of all kinds get in these absolutely towering, decade long fights over small plastic parts, AND the people who assemble them. Men who would not ever talk to their wives this way, Bring down Fire & Thunder on people they have never met except electronically. It is the very definition of Insane! If they had to stand in front of you and risk a poke in the nose, they would NEVER say what they do online. Internet Chat Rooms and Forums bring out the Jeckell and Hyde in people. I have no idea why.

Anyway, This is a long winded way of saying, " Please Don't Go! We need your talents and perspective"

But, If you do go, Fair Winds and Calm Seas.

Please don't do it. Myself as well as many others enjoy seeing what you come up with. I am sure you enjoy showing your builds to others and we enjoy seeing them. Don't give up something you enjoy due to one person. As others have said, please reconsider.  If not now perhaps later ? You know where we will be  !

Hi Patrick!

Please, don't let a critique define your actions. Reconsider... We need all the inspiration we can find in this hobby.

This....

I went back and looked for the thread that offended you. My advice is ignore it. It’s not worth leaving this forum site over it.

I know it's always popular to pile on somebody for any perceived wrongdoing, but after reading the "nasty comments" (what I assume are the cause of the problem), frankly, I don't see the "nasty" part.

All the accused did was to point something out.

I've always thought of Pete as one of the more intelligent, polite, articulate, and knowledgeable members here, even though we've had the occasional minor disagreement over technical subtleties.

My opinion stands.

I am new here but I want to share a story that happened to me in another group. I posted a picture of my diesel rat rod build, a member sent me a private message to tell me I installed the water manifold incorrectly. I looked at my instructions and I installed it just like the picture shows. The message included the engine number, Cat 385 or something. Kinda upset me that he was picking my project apart but I looked up the numbers he gave me on the internet and sure enough he was correct and I fixed it. What was cool about how he handled the feedback was outstanding (private) second he gave me instructions to validate. My short coming to take offense too quickly.
Something interesting about our hobby. Last fall I went to a car show and was studying the engine compartment and those guys hide every wire and hose to make them look like model cars. We as modelers go to extremes to add every wire and hose we possibly can. We all share a lot of passion and desire to build our best effort every build. To question our builds after we try everything to build our best feels kinda crappy sometimes. I suppose a teacher faces this everyday.

Have you read the thread in question? Apparently not.

Nobody's build was ever "questioned", nobody's work was denigrated, no names were called, there were no criticisms of any build or anyone's skill or character.

A photo used for reference was pointed out as being of a model, not a real object.

That's all.

EDIT: I like and respect both PatW and Peteski. And I think enough is enough.

X✌

I read it too, and I don't see the criticism. It wasn't directed at his build, just questioning a photo that was posted. And he even explained, multiple times, that it wasn't meant to be critical.

Exactly!

This is a typical thing that happens nowadays - cancel culture.  Someone has a knee-jerk reaction and others pile in (without seeing the "big picture). One thing is for sure - if Pat ever posts anything here again *I WILL NOT COMMENT*.

Too bad that my "offending" post was deleted, because there is no reason in hell that when viewed in the contest of that entire thread it could be perceived as offensive or degrading.

Other members who made similar comments about leaving the board have been informed by mods that it's their choice if they no longer feel like participating in the board. There's no need to make a public proclamation of your intentions. Just stop participating. Otherwise, it looks like grandstanding because there is no actual intention to bid adieu. Your statement is just a way to solicit sympathetic "please stay" comments because you're not serious about going through with it. If you were, you wouldn't still be posting here. Also, why are you dragging the topic, and the apparent grudge against peteski, into other unrelated threads? It shouldn't have been discussed any further than within the original thread.
