OldTrucker Posted March 12, 2022 Posted March 12, 2022 Found one I can actually get done because the body is painted. Working on the engine and chassis. Added a little rust.
cobraman Posted March 12, 2022 Posted March 12, 2022 I like Corvairs. Once upon a time I had a 67 Monza. It was actually a pretty good car and did good in the Illinois snow.
bisc63 Posted March 12, 2022 Posted March 12, 2022 Floorpan is looking good, got any pics of that painted body? Will be following along, always liked the Corvair body lines. Good model kit.
OldTrucker Posted March 12, 2022 Author Posted March 12, 2022 (edited) Finishing the engine and creating my own exhaust system. Edit: My exhaust system didn't work out as I did not account for the clearance with the rear wheels and since I cut up the other option to soonI will add heater boxes and stock mufflers with them dumping straight out the back instead. The 4 carbs looked clunky even stripped of chrome so went to the parts box for an alternative. Edited March 12, 2022 by OldTrucker

The body was one I recieved from another member here because the one in a open kit I got in a trade had the front decklid partially cut out badly. It appears to be a prepainted body. I tried putting it in the purple pond for a week and it didn't touch the paint. I didnt get the rear deck lid with the body. Cant seem to match the white on my lid though. Tried twice.
Bainford Posted March 12, 2022 Posted March 12, 2022 A Corvair build, cool. My favourite Chevrolet. Looking good with Webers.
espo Posted March 12, 2022 Posted March 12, 2022 Might try and do a turbo setup like the Monza Spyder.

I owned a 1964 Spyder for a short time. Bought from my old grade school music teacher then made her mad when I sold it to the original owner, her ex husband!LOL Originally was going to make it a convertible that would have replicated a 67 Monza vert I had in Wisconsin. If both doors were accidentally opened at the same time it took a floor jack to close them again!LOL

If both doors were accidentally opened at the same time it took a floor jack to close them again!LOL Having owned a few convertibles in the past I quickly learned that you don't even try and open the doors when the car was on the rack, and these were full frame cars with factory added X frames. I like the story about your old Corvair. I'll bet you never got a good grade in Music after that. Another possibility depending on your tastes and how you feel about a little fab work. Years ago there used to be an after market single four barrel set up that put the carb in the center above the fan and ran piping to the heads. I don't think that would be hard to do if that is something you would consider.
Gramps46 Posted March 12, 2022 Posted March 12, 2022 My Dad was a big Corvair fan. He was a school superintendent and would take it out early on lake effect snowy mornings to see if the buses could make it through. Made this model of it. Really looking forward to watching your build.

Interesting. You may have run up against an acrylic (water-based) paint job there. I have stripped pre-painted Polar Lights brand pre-painted kits before with rubbing alcolhol. Buy the good stuff: 92% isopropyl, and not the cheaper 70% commonly seen. Soak the body in a couple bottles of that and I'd bet it comes clean. About the only thing to strip acrylic, I think, though others may offer some better solutions? Purple stuff won't do anything but clean the surface (as you found out) !
OldTrucker Posted March 14, 2022 Author Posted March 14, 2022 Just finished detailing the dash best I could. 1
