Raoul Ross Posted July 18, 2022 Posted July 18, 2022 (edited) As I'm getting back into modeling again, I wanted to start small and easy. I built a couple planes (1/48 SPAD XIII and P-47) and was chomping at the bit to do some model cars again. Decided on a couple projects but needed to do some pre-work first. Picked up this AMT Blueprinter Trailer on ebay from a guy who had 3 of them but this was the only one he listed as 'Complete'. Somebody had done a decent spray job on it years ago and then put it away. While stored it got a little beat up but not too bad, mainly the fenders. Came with complete instructions and the original decals! METAL AXLES OR DEATH! Isn't that the AMT Motto? Ha! Edited July 18, 2022 by Raoul Ross 1
Raoul Ross Posted July 18, 2022 Author Posted July 18, 2022 (edited) The Wheels/Tires were 'Meh', painted the slots but it just wasn't doing it for me. Sprayed the wheels with Tamiya flat clear and they were close but still need something. So I installed the whitewall tires from the Chevy 3100 pickup I'm gonna build to pull it and Bango, I had it! Painted the taillights with some Model Master Red/Yellow Metalics, not too bad! More to come! Hope you enjoy this. Edited July 18, 2022 by Raoul Ross
unclescott58 Posted July 18, 2022 Posted July 18, 2022 I remember getting this trailer back at the time. In fact I still have it. Kool to see your build.
Bills72sj Posted July 18, 2022 Posted July 18, 2022 I did one of these a long time ago. I made some changes you may wish to consider in your build. I added a spare tire, made a strap/chain box and used textured paint for the deck. 1
Raoul Ross Posted July 18, 2022 Author Posted July 18, 2022 Nice trailer but I'm going for '63-'64 era look. I like the Tool Box idea though, Thanx! ?
Bills72sj Posted July 19, 2022 Posted July 19, 2022 '63-'64 I would suspect would have steelies for rims. I do not believe there were too many racers that would spend the cash on mags for their trailer.

I thought of that as I picked the years for this project but the metal axles kinda necessitated that decision. They could change though! It's not like they're glued on er nothin... heh! It's a part of a long range project, maybe ending up with a diorama.
Bills72sj Posted July 19, 2022 Posted July 19, 2022 Cool, I'll be following. The only car trailer I have to build is in this kit.
Raoul Ross Posted July 19, 2022 Author Posted July 19, 2022 (edited) Ha, forgot to add pictures. Polished (sanded) the fenders to see if I could get the paint marring out but ended up going through the paint so, seeing as how they were nicely sanded, I brush painted them with Testors Gloss black enamel... they came out alright. Yea, it's a fancy ast trailer for 1964! lol Edited July 19, 2022 by Raoul Ross 1

stavanzer Posted July 19, 2022 Posted July 19, 2022 Add some Dealership Sponsor Graphics to the Tow Vehicle to justify the Fancy Rims on the trailer. A dealer (especially in SoCal) could justify the expense of the rims. Rig looks very Nice!
PatW Posted July 31, 2022 Posted July 31, 2022 Nice one! Really good. Being in the UK I'd never seen one of these before.
Raoul Ross Posted July 31, 2022 Author Posted July 31, 2022 (edited) Thanx Pat. I did do a couple little things while waiting for parts, namely a winch. I thought the tailights looked a little fragile so I added a gusset to each and made a bottom to the screw jack. Edited July 31, 2022 by Raoul Ross 1
