Never before was I so happy to finish up a kit . So, here it is such as it is . Very disappointed it this kit and myself . I think in the hands of a better builder this could be really nice . Got the fit as best I could but not very happy with the results . Not all my colors are correct . Painted Tamiya yellow TS-16 . Duplicolor 1K clear . I used Indycals for the number 8 car . Lots of chrome was either removed or coated with a dull coat spray . Couple things still need to be done but finished for the most part . I have to order some Goodyear tire decals as the transfers included in the kit did just not work . Lastly I need to finish the hood pins . I need to add the wire and clips . First I have to find where I put them for safe keeping ! Front and rear panels are not hinged . They fit much worse when hinged . Still it will look pretty cool in the cabinet .

The way I see it, all builds are a compromise between three things:

1) What we want to do. The dream or vision we have in mind as we build.

2) What we are capable of doing. What our skills and available materials and equipment allow for.

3) What the kit allows us to do. One can only do so much with a kit.

I think you hit an excellent compromise!

The build is rich with detail, well constructed, and seems to be an accurate representation of the car which inspired it.

I'd be proud to put it in my display case.

Despite the fit issues it has turned out great. You could display it in a shop type setting with front & rear panels removed and standing against a wall behind the car. This way you can see both the great paint finish and the beautifully exposed chassis / mechanical bits.

You did a great job given the problems you encountered and it’s nice to see one of the other 66 Lemans entries besides #1, #2 or #5.  I built the IMC 1/25 and Lemans Miniatures 1/87 kits and as you probably know the IMC kits can be a bear.  Here’s a few pictures of the #8 that is in the Simeone museum.

I think it looks great and would be proud of it as is. The colors and finish seem really close to the pictures of the real car.

From where I sit this looks really great and in larger scale the details become more important so does the fitting. Just because a kit is bigger does not guarantee the build will go easy. From your results, I think you're too hard on yourself. Remember, the most important thing , you have to have fun. That's all that matters . You did a super job, it looks awesome.

Thanks Rex. Yes, all the IMC kits were tough to build. These are great photos. Gary sent me a thumb drive that had a lot of good pics that really helped but these show a little more detail.
