cobraman Posted September 21, 2022 Posted September 21, 2022 Never before was I so happy to finish up a kit . So, here it is such as it is . Very disappointed it this kit and myself . I think in the hands of a better builder this could be really nice . Got the fit as best I could but not very happy with the results . Not all my colors are correct . Painted Tamiya yellow TS-16 . Duplicolor 1K clear . I used Indycals for the number 8 car . Lots of chrome was either removed or coated with a dull coat spray . Couple things still need to be done but finished for the most part . I have to order some Goodyear tire decals as the transfers included in the kit did just not work . Lastly I need to finish the hood pins . I need to add the wire and clips . First I have to find where I put them for safe keeping ! Front and rear panels are not hinged . They fit much worse when hinged . Still it will look pretty cool in the cabinet . 8
cobraman Posted September 22, 2022 Author Posted September 22, 2022 Thanks Larry. I put in wrong place would someone be kind enough to move to correct section, Thanks
Kah puts Posted September 22, 2022 Posted September 22, 2022 Love it, job well done, try not to be to hard on yourself , absolutely fantastic.
Gramps46 Posted September 22, 2022 Posted September 22, 2022 I like it Ray and what you have done with it. You stepped up to the challenges and did a fine build.

beeRS Posted September 22, 2022 Posted September 22, 2022 Looks great to me. Is this Magnifier kit the same as the Trumpeter one?
FLHCAHZ Posted September 22, 2022 Posted September 22, 2022 I think it looks great! Very nice detailing (and lots of it)
David G. Posted September 22, 2022 Posted September 22, 2022 The way I see it, all builds are a compromise between three things: 1) What we want to do. The dream or vision we have in mind as we build. 2) What we are capable of doing. What our skills and available materials and equipment allow for. 3) What the kit allows us to do. One can only do so much with a kit. I think you hit an excellent compromise! The build is rich with detail, well constructed, and seems to be an accurate representation of the car which inspired it. I'd be proud to put it in my display case. David G.
Pierre Rivard Posted September 22, 2022 Posted September 22, 2022 Despite the fit issues it has turned out great. You could display it in a shop type setting with front & rear panels removed and standing against a wall behind the car. This way you can see both the great paint finish and the beautifully exposed chassis / mechanical bits.

cobraman Posted September 22, 2022 Author Posted September 22, 2022 I would like to thank you all for your kind words. That kit sure was a struggle for me.
vamach1 Posted September 22, 2022 Posted September 22, 2022 You did a great job given the problems you encountered and it’s nice to see one of the other 66 Lemans entries besides #1, #2 or #5. I built the IMC 1/25 and Lemans Miniatures 1/87 kits and as you probably know the IMC kits can be a bear. Here’s a few pictures of the #8 that is in the Simeone museum. 1
espo Posted September 22, 2022 Posted September 22, 2022 I think it looks great and would be proud of it as is. The colors and finish seem really close to the pictures of the real car.
Rick L Posted September 22, 2022 Posted September 22, 2022 Looks good from my house. Don’t beat yourself up on stuff you can’t control.
happy grumpy Posted September 22, 2022 Posted September 22, 2022 From where I sit this looks really great and in larger scale the details become more important so does the fitting. Just because a kit is bigger does not guarantee the build will go easy. From your results, I think you're too hard on yourself. Remember, the most important thing , you have to have fun. That's all that matters . You did a super job, it looks awesome.

Yes, all the IMC kits were tough to build. These are great photos. Gary sent me a thumb drive that had a lot of good pics that really helped but these show a little more detail.
cobraman Posted September 22, 2022 Author Posted September 22, 2022 Thank you all for the positive comments. They mean a lot to me.
Tommy124 Posted September 23, 2022 Posted September 23, 2022 I agree with all of the above Ray, your model looks good!
kenlwest Posted September 24, 2022 Posted September 24, 2022 Your awesome building skills and determination makes up for the fitment issues with the kit. It turned out great!
