Brianl Posted November 18, 2022 Posted November 18, 2022 This is an original 1966 kit (I think). Detail was very, very good for such an early kit but final body fit was a problem, probably due to age rather than original molds. They look worse in the photos than on the model I'm sorry to say. After all these years only the rear lower suspension mount and tyres were missing. The side windows aren't even close so I'll have to do some thinking for them.... Decals were a tasteful shade of dark yellow so I've just used some like ones. Just for interest I've added the "Modern Day Jet Fighter" list for any early jet fans. Other cars listed included a Ferrari 342 America and a Cunningham. Overall I wish someone would remake these kits. It would be pretty popular I would think. Love to hear from anyone who remembers making them way back when. Brian 2
TooOld Posted November 18, 2022 Posted November 18, 2022 Well done Brian ! The Chaparral's were among the best looking race cars at that time and we definitely need a new kit ! I'd love to find one of these Aurora kits as they were the best detailed available .
Joe Nunes Posted November 18, 2022 Posted November 18, 2022 Nice model. Can recall sitting at my study desk in my room as a teen and building this kit. Thanks for the fond memories! Joe
1959scudetto Posted November 18, 2022 Posted November 18, 2022 Good-looking Chaparral 2 - wish we could see that again.
papajohn97 Posted November 18, 2022 Posted November 18, 2022 Amazingly fine job on this ancient kit, especially the engine detailing. Funny that Aurora omitted a passenger seat in this kit which I believe was a requirement on the mid-60’s in the various series these Chaparral 2’s competed in. I would love to see this 1/25 kit re-issued along with the Ferrari Berlinetta, Maserati 3500 GT, Porsche 904 and Aston Martin DB4. Had no idea they also kitted a Cunningham.
Howard Cohen Posted November 18, 2022 Posted November 18, 2022 Nicely done. I have a glue bomb of this and have spent many hours cleaning it up and it still needs many more. Good to see yours finished.
Brianl Posted November 18, 2022 Author Posted November 18, 2022 Hi John Your mention of a Maserati 3500GT got me thinking so I went to the bottom of my stash and found this. It's a glue bomb that was donated to me many years go. I'll have to fix it up now. It's dated 1983. The Chapparral is dated 1966. And thanks everyone for the comments and memories. Brian
Scott Colmer Posted November 19, 2022 Posted November 19, 2022 That is a nice piece of work! Good on you for putting it together. It looks great and I enjoyed seeing this rare piece built.
Dave B Posted November 20, 2022 Posted November 20, 2022 Hi Brian, thanks for sharing this, it's a great build and I had no idea Aurora released this kit with so much detail. I do have the Aston Martin, Ferrari 250 GTO and the Maserati 3500. Tks again. Dave B
GLMFAA1 Posted November 20, 2022 Posted November 20, 2022 I got mine when I was a Chevy fan and the Aurora kit was repackaged with WWII fighter livery. Started but still not finished, never could figure out the bottom pan color as seemed to change. Nice build. greg
Bainford Posted November 23, 2022 Posted November 23, 2022 Very cool build. I had no idea the old Aurora kit was this good. You have done a fine job on it. A cool piece of model car history.
Bruce Scully Posted November 24, 2022 Posted November 24, 2022 Well done Brian , nice work on a not so easy kit .
sflam123 Posted December 11, 2022 Posted December 11, 2022 That is SO COOL! I was a huge fan of Jim Hall and his Chaparral race cars in sports car racing and esp. in Can-Am. Nice work!
Pierre Rivard Posted December 11, 2022 Posted December 11, 2022 Well done! Always nice to see one of these vintage Aurora kits. The subjects were so interesting.
echo Posted January 4, 2023 Posted January 4, 2023 Very nice, I would also like to see some early Chaparrals and some other early sports and road racing subjects become available as kits again. Aurora did a nice job on this kit with details especially for the era it was made. Very nice model.
