I’m starting with the Testors 71 Cuda kit that is lacking a lot of details so I’m going to make it a Barracuda and change out most of the parts with a Revell 70’s T/A Cuda kit. I’m going with a 383 engine and front bench seat. This is going to be car number 4 for my 1971 car transporter that I’m planning on building in the future. Hears what I’m starting with so far.

Cool project, both this and the transporter project. I'm watching.

I've been planning a similar build, but stuffing the Revell kit into an MPC '74 Cuda.

The old Johan S&M 1971 Barracuda Pro Stock -- great starting point for a Barracuda model (no "fender gills" from the 'Cuda model).

What kit are you planning to download the 383 from?

Yes it's the Jo-Han kit and it was the last time it was seen as the tooling disappeared after that run together with the 1970 Olds, the Rambler S/C and the Mercury Comet, I kknow there were plans to reissue them but the tooling was lost.

I did a '71 Barracuda conversion on the Revell kit.  Looking forward Dan to following your project.

Thanks JC

Thanks Trevor, I will probably do the same thing with my 74 Cuda I have in my stash. For the car transporter I’m trying to figure out a 8 car hauler seeing I have a 5, 2-6, 7 and 9 car haulers .

Thanks John I’m rethinking the 383 I thought I still had a Gibson 383 but it’s a 340. I’m thinking I may make the 340 into a 318.

Yea this is the reissued JoHan under the Testor label.

Well it’s been almost a year now since I last worked on the 71 Barracuda and this is one of the 8 that I’m using for my 1971 load of new Mopars I need to get back on track to finish it. Today I decided that the hood that I’m using is to narrow so I added some ever green strips on it to close up the gaps. More test fitting and adjustments with the chassis. I’m going with Scale Finishes 71 Dodge E7 Burgundy and still haven’t decided on the interior colors yet. I’m thinking about white/black or black or maybe red. Here’s today’s progress.

Bill the Revell body has more details but to swap out the front and rear grills would require a lot of work and you still are missing the side grills for the Cuda version.

Dan, interesting topic! If you are aiming for a factory stock car E7 would not be right. It was not an e-body color.

Jens, I was checking Hamtramck today and saw that E7 Burgundy was for the Fury’s. I’m going with its a special order car with this color. Next time I’ll have to check Hamtramck before choosing my color.

I see the differences. Swapping looks doable with some work. The issue would be, is it worth the effort.

Bill for me it’s less effort using the Testors body and making the adjustments to the Revell 70’s interior and chassis.

following Dan...

Thanks Ken most of my progress is on the weekends.

GE7 would be "999" for anything other than a C-body. Totally realistic and entirely possible. There's a '70 Challenger R/T with EA9 Charcoal Iridescent , an Imperial-only colour ; its body paint code is "999".

Thanks for the feedback John, I’ve heard that you put the money down with your order you could make some changes within reason.

Hi Dan, very interesting project; It is a model that I would like to build.

Thanks German just let me know if you have any questions on what I’ve done or how I’m planning to do something with my build.

This week’s progress I built up the engine and wired the plugs and started painting the interior. I’ve decided to go with the magnum wheels. I’m also going with the split bench seat.

Cool!...?? I like the Magnums more than the rallys on a 'Cuda... They make the car look more aggressive...??
