Hello Everybody!

I know it's been a few months since I posted anything here but as they say, "Life Happens". I now find myself getting to a point where I can start to actively "hobby" again. So I'm back for as long as the will will will.

I'm still working on my Fugimi Lamborghini Countache and I hope to have an update soon. But for now,  I needed a simple warm-up exercise to get myself back into building shape. So here it is, a departure from my normal fare. The Bandai Ceilnova Mecha in Black.

I picked this kit up a while ago with the intent of challenging myself with some building diversity. Don't get me wrong. I enjoy building cars, but I also enjoy Science Fiction and Fantasy. Most of all, I enjoy building. And although I may branch out from time to time and build something else, I will continue building Model Cars, Mostly.

The build sheet is laid out in blocks of what Bandai calls "Thirty Minute Missions". Or build sessions of thirty minutes each. With one session for each of the arms and legs and one for the waist and one for the head and torso, it would seem that a build time of about three to four hours should be anticipated. I'm thinking that an experienced builder could make much quicker work of it than that.

Here are the arms. I'm very pleased with the engineering of this kit. All the parts are precisely tooled and cast and go together with either snap placement or friction fit completely eliminating the need for any kind of adhesive. With a few exceptions, the kit is also laterally symmetrical which makes assembly that much easier.

Each of the arms is presented as a "Thirty Minute Mission" but I managed to complete them both in a little less time than that. As I thought, an experienced should be able to make short work of this kit.

That's all for now, more updates soon.

As always, thanks for taking the time to look and please feel free to post a comment.

Great little kits, that are a lot of fun to build.

Bandai's quality never disappoints, always an enjoyable experience building their kits.

I agree. This is the first Bandai kit I've built and I'm quite pleased. I look forward to building more of their kits in the future. I know that they have a number of lines in a wide choice of genres so I'm sure I can find something to interest me.

Hello Everybody!

I've been making quick progress on this build. Getting the photos sorted and edited is taking longer than the build itself. :D

Again, the legs and the waist are each presented as a "Thirty Minute Mission". This bit here took me about forty minutes; so maybe the whole assembly is supposed to be a Thirty minute Mission?

Anyhow, thanks for taking the time to look and please feel free to comment.

Hello Everybody!

Here is the completely assembled mecha. It took me a little less than two hours to put it alltogether. Finding the time to get the photos done took a couple of days though.

The unit is very well articulated and easy to pose in a variety of action stances. I call this pose "Disco Danny".

There are a lot of additional accessories and weapons that can be purchased seperately to customize each uint to suit the builder's taste. Though I'm intrigued by the thought, I don't believe that I'll be indulging in that aspect of the genre. I do plan to customize through the use some creative detail painting.

At this point, with the exception of adding some decals as a finishing touch, the model is technically completed. I am however, feeling an urge to put my own finishing touches on the model. The next step is to disassemble and prep it for painting.

As always, thanks for taking the time to look and please feel free to comment.

Hello Everybody!

I've been plugging away on this one and I think I came up with what I hope will be a good looking paint scheme.

I've disassembled most of the model and started on prep for detail painting. These lighter gray pieces have already been cleaned up, primed and shot with some Rustoleum Chrome paint. This will serve as the basecoat for my chosen color.

It looks "chromier" in person than it does in the photo. But it's just there as a base to give my chosen color some extra punch.

That's it for this round. As always, thanks for taking a look and please feel free to post a comment or two.

Hello Everybody!

I'm in the final stages of completing this one, I plan to wrap it up sometime in the couple of days.

I decided on Tamiya TS-53 Metallic Blue as the topcoat color. I think these bits will look great once the model is reassembled.

I also have the joining pieces in their chosen color, Tamiya TS-42 Light Gunmetal. I plan to use some Tamiya Panel Line Accent Color to add some depth to them.

Hello Everybody!

Here is the final color I'm using for this model, Tamiya TS-40 Metallic Black. These are the parts that were originally cast in black, the Metallic Black should punch them up a little bit.

I've already knocked the arms together, now on to the rest!

Hello Everybody!

The Ceilnova Mech is now finished and as soon as I get some time, I'll take and post some photos in the appropriate "Under Glass" section.

In the meantime, here are the last of the WIP photos.

Here are the assembled arms and legs along with the AWACS style radar waiting to be installed on the main battle frame (torso).

A closeup that shows some of the joint piece detail brought out by the shading wash I applied.

I hope to get the final photos shot and edited in the next couple of days.

Interesting colour selections.

Its a very rewarding experience reassembling these kits after paint seeing all the colours come together.

Look forward to seeing the glamour shots Under Glass

Looks good, David! Nice work! Its fun doing something other than vehicles every now and again. ??

Thanks John, I'm glad you like it.

I agree. I like to think of myself as a model builder who tends to favor cars. But I've also done model railroads and RC racing.

This one is now finished and is available in the  "All the Rest" heading in the "Under Glass".
