Slotto Posted January 27, 2023 Posted January 27, 2023 Here's the Chevy 396 I just started. First thing I did was grab a motor. I got them from Amazon. I'm into electronics so I always have a few lying around. I cut a small piece of 1/8" styrene rod and drilled a 1/32" hole in the end and slide it over the motor shaft. If it's not a snug fit, start over. Next I cut a small raft for the motor to sit on inside the engine block. Super glue the motor to the raft. Eyeball about where it best fits in the block and cut the block as needed. Drill 2 small holes in the block, I made mine near the starter for the wire leads. I tied a knot in the wire so it wont accidentally pull out. Solder the other ends of the wire to the motor. Then assemble. I drilled out the water pump and the fan belt assembly so the fan shaft can stick thru. Stay tuned, more to come. 1
Slotto Posted January 29, 2023 Author Posted January 29, 2023 sorry, not many pictures, but you get the idea of how I did it. Once I get started I keep going. I did run into a small setback. When I add things such as the heads and intake I'll test along the way to make sure the motor spins. Well after painting and almost at this stage, something bound up and since these motors lack any torque, I bumped the juice a bit. Sometimes this gets things spinning again. Not this time. I began to smell something like cooking electronics. Ugh! I had to pull it apart and add a new motor. All I need to do now is paint the fan and glue it in place. Should finish today.
