pjacobs Posted March 31, 2023 Posted March 31, 2023 I bought some Scale Finishes Saturn Yellow and it just seems too "light yellow". I've looked at models presented in the under glass section and they also seem brighter. I'm not saying anything bad about the paint, how it works, etc. That isn't my issue. I completely followed the instructions to a "T" with primer, paint, and clear by them too. Comes from my auto body background I guess. I know 70's colors don't have the "pop" that technology has provided for today's brightness so maybe I'm just used to those. I just thought Buick's yellow would have been brighter. The goal is to replicate a straight from the dealership in 1970 so if this is right than so be it. Looking at chips and cars on the internet is not the best way too get a proper look either. Anybody out there have thoughts?
karbuildr Posted April 1, 2023 Posted April 1, 2023 If your looking for a very bright yellow I can offer two suggestions. The first may be a bit hard to find since it's been discontinued. Testors Model Master Lacquer Spray #28103 Daytona Yellow. Last time I got it was from Model Roundup. The second is a similar color, Mr. Color Spray #4 Yellow (Lacquer). Mr. Color is available via https://www.usagundamstore.com/pages/search-results-page?collection=mr-color-spray&page=4 It's near the bottom of the page. Both are very bright and close to what your looking for with the Buick GSX Saturn Yellow. I've never used Scale Finishes paints so I can't offer an opinion. In fact, you'd be surprised how much some of the late 60's and early 70's colors actually have a good amount of "pop", i.e., the Chrysler Hi Impact colors and Ford colors (Vermillion, Hulla Blue, Anti-Establishment Mint, etc.), AMC "Big Bad" colors, GM Citrus Green, Mille Miglia Red, Mulsanne Blue, etc. You are correct though, in that those earlier attempts to offer bright or intense colors were limited by the technology of the time. Modern paint technology is far and away more able to offer incredible colors in a huge array of hues that weren't possible back then. Hope this helps.
