Does anyone know if the 65 El Camino will have taillight bezels?

The original issue had a bezel the taillight lens sat in. Without a bezel the lens is lost in the hole in the body.

I have a couple original issues with bezels.

Not sure if the bezels just got blocked off or were cut up to add another feature to the chrome tree.

All new means just that.  The original altered wheelbase Chevelle started out as a dealer promotional model, was sold as a snap-together kit, then the body was converted to the funny car.  Later the body was again altered to create a dirt track car, itself reissued a couple of years ago.

The '65 Chevelle AWB tooling itself is all-new, but the design is cloned off of the original Funny Car kit with minimal changes to improve the fit and some of the stock body trim was removed.  Also, the tires are now molded in a vinyl like material vs hard styrene.   It's close enough to the vintage kit that we could re-use the original box art.

The dirt track '65 Chevelle tooling is untouched and can be re-issued in the future.

The 1970s issues had the chrome bezels filled in to eliminate the red lens. When Ertl reissued the Elky, they had evidently found the lens tool, but blocked off the bezel from the chrome tree. I dont recall if Round 2 ever unblocked the bezel gates, but yeah, the lenses are now pretty much useless. Maybe @Steve Gwould have some insight.

What's being used now are the custom taillight lenses from the 1964 El Camino and station wagon:

They fit flush with the opening OK, but you have to cut them down and add thin sheet plastic around them to make bezels - or find an earlier issue of the '65 wagon/El Camino to get the correct lenses and bezels; just another thing AMT messed up but never fixed (like the hood).

The chromed tail lamps have been unblocked and are included in this latest issue of the Elky, but they are not shown on the instructions sheet.  I just checked my test build and those are what I used.  The red lenses are still included but are a poor fit without the original chromed bezels.

The clear custom grille was also restored with clear camper windows.  The drag engine parts have also been returned for this issue.  Note this kit will also make a good donor for another project I'm working on, yet to be announced.

Steve, when the cloning was done did they finally fix the hood so it's even all the way across where it touches the cowl?

Looks like they copied the raised center on the hood, same as the El Camino which I'm assuming is also wrong at the back edge.   Looks like it supposed to taper off toward the back edge.  One of the downsides of cloning old kits is sometimes the errors are copied too.

Guys...re-read Steve's reply above.  He just passed along a very big hint about a future project he is apparently working on, that I do not think is (my guess here) on anybody's radar screen right now.  Just saying!!!  TB

I have a feeling I know what it is. Something originally molded in yellow.
