Zippi Posted September 19, 2023 Author Posted September 19, 2023 (edited) Ok...I think I have the Top Fuel engine completed. The only thing left is a little touch up. I also threw a little more mud on the fenders. Edited September 19, 2023 by Zippi 2
Zippi Posted September 22, 2023 Author Posted September 22, 2023 I got a new set of fenders from my good friend Roger. I glued the body to the fenders and sanded the top smooth. Shot some Tamiya White Surface Primer on the body to see any spots needing attention. 1

Tortuga Kustomz Posted September 24, 2023 Posted September 24, 2023 Nice man, engine came out really nice and clean, looking forward for more updates

Zippi Posted September 24, 2023 Author Posted September 24, 2023 Not much to report fellow. I shot some Tamiya White Surface Primer on the body to see all the bad spot. The top is now looking nice and smooth after shaving off the padded insert. I decided to fill in the cowl vent and the firewall still needed a little more filler. 2
Zippi Posted September 24, 2023 Author Posted September 24, 2023 Well, decided to clean the body up and shot a little more primer on and it didn't go well. I can't seem to get through a paint job without something going wrong. This was a new can. Guess I'll have to let this dry and sand it down again.
bobss396 Posted September 25, 2023 Posted September 25, 2023 I have to watch myself with old paints I have around. I blow through the gray Mr. Hobby cans, about 1 every 10 days. I just picked up some Tamiya white primer online. On the '34 body, I usually sand out that extra ledge around the side windows.

I hear ya. I took the spray nozzle off the can I just emptied and all's good.
Zippi Posted September 25, 2023 Author Posted September 25, 2023 I have a question for one of you fellows that have built the kit. While doing a mockup of the interior tub it doesn't seem to me like it's up inside the body far enough. I'm thinking the door panels need to be even with the bottom of the windows. Do the pics show the interior tube in the correct location or not? Thanks fellows.
Zippi Posted September 26, 2023 Author Posted September 26, 2023 (edited) I'm getting closer with the interior tub fitting like I want. I think now if I cut the bottom of the windshield off that should do it. I Painted the tires with Tamiya TS-82 Rubber Black and the wheels with Tamiya TS-14 Black then cleared the wheels with TS-13 Clear. Before I painted the tires they were to close in color with the wheels. Much better now with a little separation in color. The last time I tried painting the letters on the tires it didn't go so well. I went to HL yesterday and picked up a 05mm white gel pen and a fine tip spotting paint brush. I'm hoping one will work much better than before. Update: I went ahead and used the 05mm white gel pen to paint the white letters on the tires. I'm a happy camper on how the turned out. bobthehobbyguy Posted September 26, 2023 Posted September 26, 2023 Sorry to hear you're having paint issues. Getting a good paint job is a lot of work and is just as stressful as the final assembly process. Looking forward to seeing more of this one.

Just a bump in the road on the primer. The body will be getting the topcoat as soon as all the rain leaves the area later this week.

Zippi Posted September 27, 2023 Author Posted September 27, 2023 I now have a rolling chassis so I did a little mockup to make sure everything still fits and if I like the look. I'm really liking what I see and I'm really liking the primer and black look. Oh boy...now the wheels are turning about the primer look. 2
