RocketFoot Posted October 2, 2023 Posted October 2, 2023 (edited) I have an idea to build a homemade paint booth from a large, clear tote! The problem is, I can't seem to locate an inexpensive fan or air handler box that I could mount to the rear of the tote? It could have a filter built in with 4" flex hose outlet or something that just mounts to the plastic tote like a square to 4" hose plenum and I could cut a slot in the tote to accept a proper sized furnace filter. I know I can buy a small paint booth for around $100 but I'd like to DIY one that is a little bigger for less money! Just having trouble locating a source for parts! This as the Amazon link to my inspiration... https://www.amazon.com/VIVOHOME-Airbrush-Paint-Lights-Filter/dp/B0BR7TQXK2/ref=sxin_15_sbv_search_btf?content-id=amzn1.sym.5795aee5-71f0-4369-b632-e8c78407f2cf%3Aamzn1.sym.5795aee5-71f0-4369-b632-e8c78407f2cf&crid=WZY6M3OUV1YT&cv_ct_cx=paint%2Bbooth&keywords=paint%2Bbooth&pd_rd_i=B0BR7TQXK2&pd_rd_r=24fc4900-4b4e-42fc-878a-3bc929f116b7&pd_rd_w=dLVIr&pd_rd_wg=DuNgJ&pf_rd_p=5795aee5-71f0-4369-b632-e8c78407f2cf&pf_rd_r=06ZEC73K4DTD2A8J768R&qid=1696259331&sbo=RZvfv%2F%2FHxDF%2BO5021pAnSA%3D%3D&sprefix=paint%2Bbooth%2Caps%2C95&sr=1-1-5190daf0-67e3-427c-bea6-c72c1df98776&ufe=app_do%3Aamzn1.fos.006c50ae-5d4c-4777-9bc0-4513d670b6bc&th=1 Edited October 2, 2023 by RocketFoot Quote
Miatatom Posted October 2, 2023 Posted October 2, 2023 Look for a bilge pump blower. I bought mine on Amazon. Quote
RocketFoot Posted October 2, 2023 Author Posted October 2, 2023 (edited) I found a good video on making a DIY booth outta cardboard! I'm using plastic but this has some of the elements I am going to use! Unfortunately, the video doesn't reference some of the components to purchase! I've been scouring Amazon...I'll post about once I get it built! Edited October 2, 2023 by RocketFoot Quote
NOBLNG Posted October 2, 2023 Posted October 2, 2023 (edited) There is a huge sticky in the tips and tricks section on building or buying paint booths. I think a plastic booth might create problems with static electricity although a lot of folks do have them? Edited October 2, 2023 by NOBLNG Quote

Static is a good point that I need to research. It might be an issue on those small Booth’s but the tote I have is fairly large. My initial thinking is that you may rub up on a smaller booth more causing static easier than a bigger one?? Quote
JollySipper Posted October 3, 2023 Posted October 3, 2023 Greg, would the static charge be caused by the air rushing across the surface of the plastic, while the vent fan is running? Could wiping the interior of the booth with a dryer sheet help against that? Being careful not to touch the model with it, of course........... Quote
RocketFoot Posted October 3, 2023 Author Posted October 3, 2023 I could line the interior with card board or poster board with the added advantage of easy clean up. Quote

Yeah, but you would likely need a huge fan to draw enough air to cause problems. Just a wipe down should be fine. Quote
1930fordpickup Posted October 6, 2023 Posted October 6, 2023 Barry why not just use some 1/4 underlayment for your sides. Go down to the closest lumberyard and grab a piece up. Just cut to the size you need and put hinges on it if you need it to fold up. Quote

It's clear and measures like 36" x30" x 24" deep. I thought it would make a cool booth. I have a 30" LED light for it and just need some 4" dryer hose, 4" 130 cfm fan, furnace filters and a plastic plenum to make it work. Edited October 6, 2023 by RocketFoot Quote

Well, you already have the tote. I must have missed that point. You are on the right path already. good luck with a fan. Quote
RocketFoot Posted October 8, 2023 Author Posted October 8, 2023 Here is what I am working with so far! I am going to add an exhaust fan and a filter so I can vent it out my basement window! I think is gonna work pretty good! Any large projects can go outside! Quote
