MPC 1978 Dodge D100 (Blue Collar work Truck)

Recommended Posts

Picked up this kit with the intentions to build it just like this. I wanted a old work truck someone backyard painted and threw a fresh 360 in to use as weekend landscape truck and a weekday 9-5 blue collar commuter.

Building this kit was fun. Painted with Rustoleum semi gloss hunter green. The paint really looks the part. Interior was done with Tamiya AS 15. Used the CB and CB antenna which was nice. I am going to say user error on this one but I did read that others had issues with cab and box fitment. I had a time trying to get it all together but the bed sag look really suits the look I was going for so even if it was the kit it worked well. This is one of my first builds where I did not feel up to weathering the under body, which I may go back and do, but its funny that the under body actually looks like patio furniture now, I guess the Rustoleum did what it was actually intended to do...good thing the body looks old Dodge ISH.

P.S. Who needs mirror glass right. 20240105_154130.thumb.jpg.a711b8d0a9f986e5877d5f885703927d.jpg

Great looking weathered paint! Did you sand the clear to get that "frosted" look?

Funny thing, it came out of the can like that. The can claims semi gloss but this looks flat. I am thinking the non prepped primer absorbed some of the paint. Either way it worked out well!! Thanks for the post!!!

I've had that happen before, with some older clear. Not sure how long I had it (some of the Model Master brand), but it did that exact same thing. It is a great effect, if that's what you're going for, Lol.

Nice truck.  You definitely nailed the blue collar work truck look.  I am currently working on this kit.  There are issues with the cab and bed.  The bed needs to be raised 1 MM so that the character line that runs from the cab to the bed aligns.

Hey, thanks for the kind words! Yeah the box is where I was having issues. 1mm would definitely keep the lines looking straight. Hopefully the new Warlock kit is better.
