VEGA REAR BUMPER TUTORIAL?????

Like most things in life, ya can't find something when you're looking for it!! Maybe a year or so ago, I stumbled upon a tutorial where a fella was making rear Vega bumpers out of styrene stock. I thought to myself "someday I'm gonna need this". Vega big rear bumpers are used frequently in open wheel modified stock car builds. So, NOW I could use that tutorial! Can't find it. I searched this forum, Randy Ayers forum, even YouTube. No luck! I'm hoping that maybe you at one time ran into this little esoteric piece of information and can turn me on to it again.....maybe you even wrote it in the first place!

I have made modified bumpers out of aluminum bar stock (I have a milling machine) and picked up some suitable u-channel from McMaster Carr. Would that be in the ballpark for what you are looking for? These have open ends like c-channel.

Yea,, I know what you’re talking about, but not what I had in mind. What I’m thinking of is some guys took the actual Vega bumper and bolted it over a piece of channel. Really didn’t make it any stronger, just looked really cool!

After thinking it over, I believe I’ve come up with a workable idea. If you’ll recall, the actual Vega bumper is “stepped”. Figured I would use two different sizes of angle, the smaller glued under the larger, to get that effect. Then, make. 45 degree cut on each end and “weld” shorter pieces to close off the “capped” end.

Some of the early AMT NASCAR kits had a bumper that is sort of like the Vega piece. Really easy to adapt it with plastic stock to fit anywhere.
