I used the colored foam sheets that they sell at the craft stores. Used a ruler to mark the width of each section and a tracing stylus to rub and press the lines into place. For the tucks, I just pressed down hard with the stylus but you can also use the open end of a clicking pen to make actual buttons.

Such a cool and unique build. I've commented on it on Instagram and actually shared it as my daily featured pic. 

I'm not a big fan of that Tom Daniel design, but you took it and made it so much cooler, and then the flattie V-12 to top it off is just awesome!
