dodgefever Posted April 19, 2024 Posted April 19, 2024 Nice work. I think the trailer probably has a single leaf each side, like this (looks like it's a Fruehauf trailer). Truckpaper and Purplewave auctions are great for reference photos. https://www.purplewave.com/auction/121129/item/G5541/1982-Fruehauf-Construction_Trailers-Bottom_Dump_Trailer-Texas
Jürgen M. Posted April 25, 2024 Author Posted April 25, 2024 These are the first printed parts. They're unprocessed though, meaning they have to be deburred, grinded and filament threads have to be cut off. Some prints didn't work out OK, some just don't look good so I'll have to redo them.
Jürgen M. Posted April 25, 2024 Author Posted April 25, 2024 Thanks! ? We'll see how they come out when they're painted. ?
Jürgen M. Posted May 3, 2024 Author Posted May 3, 2024 Here's the front axle. Wheels and tie rod are not glued yet. Just wanted to see If everything fits! 1
Jürgen M. Posted May 6, 2024 Author Posted May 6, 2024 The cab is printed and the side windows and windshield strut assembled.
Jürgen M. Posted May 6, 2024 Author Posted May 6, 2024 Thanks Gary! Hope the rest turns out as well too! ?
Jürgen M. Posted May 7, 2024 Author Posted May 7, 2024 Some chassis parts are printed. The rails fit into eachother using the latches I designed at the ends! The suspension fits perfectly onto the shapes on the chassis rails. The suspension is the right way around, isn't it? ? If not, it's not glued yet and they fit in both sides, the fitting shapes being symmetrical.
cifenet Posted May 7, 2024 Posted May 7, 2024 Your latch system is very similar to what Italeri does for their frames. I am thinking that it allows to lengthen or even shorten the frame if they want to produce truck series of different configuration. Looking good so far and the cabin looks proper too. Good work!
Jürgen M. Posted May 7, 2024 Author Posted May 7, 2024 Hi Steve, thanks very much! You´re absolutely right there. I find it a very effective way to join frame parts and be sure they come out straight! I designed it so it just fits tightly without spreading the frame or having to much space. I´m glad it also worked out that way since the filament also has a bit of a shrinkage which may cause a too tight fit. I try to make it fit tight enough to stay in place before gluing. Sort of like a snap tite kit. Doesn´t work with all parts though.
Jürgen M. Posted May 7, 2024 Author Posted May 7, 2024 (edited) Here's how my tank brackets work: I use cable ties as straps for round fuel tanks. The brackets which are attached to the frame have square shaped holes to hide the end of the cable ties. These aren't printed very Well so I'll make new ones with a different filament! But they're good enough to Show the principle of function! This is the air cleaner: And the sliding plate (is that the correct word for it?) for the fifth wheel. Anyway, I designed two parts in one! Didn't see any sense in making it slide. I checked the position on the movie truck and that's how it's gonna be! ? The brake chambers: Edited May 7, 2024 by Jürgen M. 1
Jürgen M. Posted May 7, 2024 Author Posted May 7, 2024 (edited) The size of the printed cab seems to be correct! ? Did later K100 Models have less rivets showing on the outside of the cab? The movie truck is covered by them, the K100 VIT hardly has any! ? Edited May 7, 2024 by Jürgen M. 1

To answer your question the rear suspension needs to be as in the middle photo with the radius arms to the front.
Jürgen M. Posted May 8, 2024 Author Posted May 8, 2024 Hi Rockford and thanks very much for your great feedback! I really appreciate it! So what you mean is, the springs have to be mounted like this?
Jürgen M. Posted May 8, 2024 Author Posted May 8, 2024 Luckily I made them fit both ways! Thanks again for your expertise! ?

Jürgen M. Posted May 8, 2024 Author Posted May 8, 2024 Thanks! It really makes me happy seeing that what I do is liked and so much appreciated! I must admit I have learned so much about modelling techniques and trucks generally and I want to thank all of you who keep giving me honest feedback. I love browsing through your threads and seeing the passion in your builds! The roof is printed. Sometimes I get these little brown fields in the print. I don´t know why they appear. They look like the Filament was overheated eventhough I used the lowest possible printing temperature. It doesn´t really affect the quality of the build later since you can paint right over it and no one will know about it afterwards. As you can see I designed the positions of the sun visor, horns, A/C box and the marker lights so they can be fit easily!
Jürgen M. Posted May 8, 2024 Author Posted May 8, 2024 The chassis rails are straight! Suspension fits! Wheels look pretty good I´d say! I´m using Italeri tires since Revell can´t deliver at the time. They transfered their production to Austria in February and told me to write a new order in about 4 -6 weeks. I wrote them end of March and mid April but no response up to now so I switched to Italeri. I´ve got about 50 tires in my parts box now. Guess that´ll be enough for a few projects! ?

I thought that nowadays Revell kits were molded and packaged in Poland, and tires were made in China. I didn't know they also had some production in Germany or Austria.
Jürgen M. Posted May 9, 2024 Author Posted May 9, 2024 Yes, I actually had ordered tires from Revell a few times last year. They had been produced in Germany until January 24. Then I got an e-mail from the distribution manager that said they were moving their production to Austria, somewhere near Salzburg! Unfortunately they haven't replied to my new order request. I'll still keep trying. The Revell tires are pretty good and quite flexible concerning the rim size!
Jürgen M. Posted May 9, 2024 Author Posted May 9, 2024 (edited) The radiator is completed. I made three parts to assemble. It's easier to print that way! I used the radiator of the K100 VIT as a reference eventhough it's a later model but it doesn't matter to me! As long as everything fits! ? Edited May 9, 2024 by Jürgen M.
Jürgen M. Posted May 13, 2024 Author Posted May 13, 2024 I printed the fuel tanks and assembled them. Now they need a bit of furnishing but they look pretty good I´d say! The front axle is also mounted and one rear axle. I began shaping the u-bolts. Have to wait for more though. I ordered more 1mm rods, I´ll get them today. This one is just fit in. Pretty tricky getting them in there. Should have put them in place before mounting the suspension. Well, that one´s past. Have to try to get them in somehow.
Jürgen M. Posted May 13, 2024 Author Posted May 13, 2024 (edited) The cab in position. The long hinge rod will be replaced by two short pins that won´t be visible later. Still a long way to go. Chassis and cab still not reworked. The seam from connecting the chassis rails is still visible, the cab still shows quite a lot of waste material especially around the rivets. But I gave myself time till about Christmas to finish it. Leaves a comfortable time window. Edited May 13, 2024 by Jürgen M. 1
