Hi Folks,

My friend Pasquale, the man behind GPModeling,  sent me info a couple of weeks ago on the new DD60 engine he is going to sell. ....

Kit Description:

The Detroit Diesel Series 60 is a six-cylinder inline diesel engine produced from 1987 to 2011. The most used versions in the road transport sector are the 12.7 liter and the 14 liter (entered service in 2001). The Series 60 engines were revolutionary when introduced thanks to their electronic control system, which was the first to appear in on-road engine applications. The version of this TK is the 12.7 Liter (note that the external dimensions of the engine block are practically the same between the two displacements) in DDEC IV (Detroit Diesel Electronic Control) configuration. Compared to the original kit (which includes the alternator on one side and the air conditioning compressor on the opposite side) I preferred to install the single support plate for the two systems on the right side (standardized version since 2002), thus also modifying the layout of the straps as in reality. The valve cover has also undergone several changes over the years. In this TK the one-piece version was used as, in my opinion, it is the most aesthetically pleasing.

The KIT engine is specifically designed for the 1/24 scale Peterbilt 377 and 378 series trucks. The Italeri 3857 kit relating to the Peterbilt 378 Long Hauler was used as a reference but it can also be used with the following kits:

  • ITALERI kit n° 740 Peterbilt 377 A/E scala 1/24
  • ITALERI kit n° 746 Peterbilt 378 US Conventional Truck scala 1/24
  • ITALERI kit n° 3894 Peterbilt 378-119 Classic  scala 1/24
  • AMT kit n° 1337/08 Peterbilt 377 A/E scala 1/24
  • AMT kit n° 1169/08 Peterbilt 378 Long Hauler scala 1/24
  • REVELL kit n° 07527 Peterbilt 377 A/E scala 1/24

The TransKit is printed with 6k/8k 3D technology and is supplied on print media. A decal sheet (not pre-cut) is included which reproduces the service labels of the various components.

Overall there are over 30 parts.

Amazing detail. I’m definitely going to make a purchase. Do you know what particular transmission he based it on? It looks like an Eaton, but I don’t recognize the bell housing.

Hello Victor,

I do not have any info on the transmission.  I agree that it looks like an Eaton. Did find this on a Google search that kinda looks like the bell housing....

Love your build you have going on in the big rig section!!!!

I really like this offering. I’ve never ordered anything from him before, my question is how long is the wait time on “in stock” items? $50 is not chump change in my hobby world and would rather hold on to my cash until it becomes available. Most times in the past the pre-orders are fulfilled and then when I go to order the status shows “out of stock”. I would like to order and receive an order in this hobby in a timely manner. Is this a possibility with this vendor? Thanks in advance for the replies.

Thanks! I agree, the bell housing is similar to the Paccar(?) transmission above. The rest of the transmission looks like an Eaton, with the rear splitter unit looking like a 15 speed, though they are also similar to a 13 or 18. Either way, the detailing he has done is amazing.

I pre-ordered mine through Spotmodel today. The unit price itself was a little more, but the shipping quote to the states was much lower through them compared to GPmodeling, so it was less expensive overall. https://www.spotmodel.com/product_info.php?products_id=60235

Saluti,

Claudio

I copied the above post from Claudio into Google Translate:

“Hi, I'm Claudio, I designed the engine for Pasquale. I confirm that for the transmission I based myself on the Eaton-Fuller RTO9513, adapting some details to the printing needs. As for the availability of TKs, rest assured that both GPmodeling and Spotmodel and other retailers will soon have their warehouses stocked.”

Hello Claudio,

Thank you for posting that info.

I was on your Facebook page earlier and saw your finished motor in the Peterbuilt frame,  it looked stunning!!!!

You should post those here?

I just received this beauty and holy cow it is spectacular !! The detail is unbelievable, well worth the money ( for me in Canada, well over $100 ) I am wondering if there is an English version of the instructions by any chance ? I certainly can follow the photos, but the write up may hold some tips that could be very useful.... any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Just download the google translate app for your phone. It will translate words on paper or photos with the camera. It is the handiest thing I have found for translating model instructions and photo captions written in different languages including the many Asian languages

Any plans to make other engines? Like a Cummins Big Cam 400 or 350, even a Caterpillar 3406B or C even early A model? These are very much needed for the Italeri line of trucks. I am going to order one of these just because it is so nice looking. But I would like to have the other brands as well. And it looks like you are a very talented designer.
