NitroMarty Posted April 23, 2024 Posted April 23, 2024 (edited) This project started way back in January of 2014. A deep dive into the parts box yielded a bunch of bits and pieces for this weird tribute to the show customs of the early 1960's I'm not sure where all the custom parts originated, but a rear Styling piece was narrowed to mate to the cut down T bird quarters, while some add on type fins were mounted to create the cantilever style fins. At this point the project was packed away and just kind of forgotten about for several years.... At some point I dug out the old T bird and cleaned up some of the bodywork before packing it away again Another year or so passed and the bodywork received a bit more attention and a final wheel and tire selection was made (Modelhaus '59 Dodge Lancer and no-name white walls).... Once again the project was set aside for a couple of years. Which brings me to now.... A couple of days ago I dug out the T-bird again and started cutting up the kit hood so that I could splice in a custom Corvette hood with a scoop. I need to pick up some fresh Bondo to do the necessary filling (mine had gone bad)... Not sure if I will stick with the half Carson top. Toyed with using a bubble top, but to me that looked a bit too Predicta like. While I realize that this isn't a lot of people's cup of tea, I'm hoping that at least a few might relate to where I'm going with this. Edited April 23, 2024 by NitroMarty 6

I’d drink that tea all day long…GREAT looking project! I’ll be following along! 1
JollySipper Posted April 23, 2024 Posted April 23, 2024 I really like this work going on! The half Carson top is what made me say "coooool" initially! I don't believe I've ever seen that top on a '57 'bird before......... 1
bobss396 Posted April 23, 2024 Posted April 23, 2024 Stalled project from 2014.... those are rookie numbers! Seriously, the car looks great. I could build for a solid 3 years if I unearthed all of my stalled projects. I have some going back to 2000. 1
FoMoCo66 Posted April 23, 2024 Posted April 23, 2024 This is a very wild custom and I like wild customs. This t bird looks amazing by the way. Looking forward for more updates. 2

I have a couple of projects tucked away, that date back to the late 1980's/early 1990's... The problem is that my mind conceives new project ideas much faster than I can actually make them happen. 2
LennyB Posted April 23, 2024 Posted April 23, 2024 I like the look of this and that rear piece looks very familiar to me but I can't place it. Thinking maybe AMT 57 Fairlane. Not sure about the roof. Maybe if you chromed the front edge and mimicked that same center peak with the windshield frame. ? 1
Mr. Metallic Posted April 23, 2024 Posted April 23, 2024 First off Marty, I'm glad you are bringing this one back to the bench again. You keep teasing us with it at KKIM when it shows up on the tables. It deserves to get finished. That being said, I love everything about it, with the exception of the new hood scoop. But digging the Corvette bumps And the top has to stay! 1

I may cut it off and try a more stylized scoop. 1

The rear is driving me crazy I've seen it before but can't place it !!!

I think that might be it. Here's a screen shot from ebay and it looks just like it but it might also be the front end custom part. I'm not 100% sure though.
Lunajammer Posted April 23, 2024 Posted April 23, 2024 This is great. Don't fail me on the taillights. They need to step that gap to the protruding fins. Glad you brought this to us, very cool. 1
Kah puts Posted April 24, 2024 Posted April 24, 2024 This thing is just begging to be built, it’s giving me that warm feeling ? 1

That comes with a chrome piece for the front of the scoop that sets it off.
milo1303s Posted April 24, 2024 Posted April 24, 2024 Got it 61 Ford Ranchero styline kit sorry for the hijack but it was killing me model on lol!!! https://public.fotki.com/drasticplasticsmcc/mkiba-build-under-c/amt-instructions/automotive-cars--pi/ford/1961-1970/amt-61-ford-rancher/61ranch007-vi.html#media 1

1930fordpickup Posted April 25, 2024 Posted April 25, 2024 Very interesting car. May not be my cup of tea as you say but it is your cup of tea. That is all that maters. The fins are cool and a nice touch. When looking at a good custom like this you can always get more ideas for your own projects. 1
NitroMarty Posted April 30, 2024 Author Posted April 30, 2024 Have started piecing together a custom interior.... Seats, floor and door panels sourced from Monogram Little Coffin. Toying with using a cut down Edsel dash. 3
NitroMarty Posted June 19, 2024 Author Posted June 19, 2024 No, I haven't forgotten about this one... Still slowly plugging away at the bodywork, interior, and drivetrain.... 3
Spex84 Posted June 20, 2024 Posted June 20, 2024 Looking good! I'm a huge fan of 60s-style customs. The extra fins in particular are "too much", so...just right "Madame Fefe" comes to mind: https://kustomrama.com/wiki/John_Buchan's_1956_Chevrolet 1

NitroMarty Posted July 10, 2024 Author Posted July 10, 2024 Just about ready to roll into the paint shop.... 1
JollySipper Posted July 10, 2024 Posted July 10, 2024 The piece in the front with the two pods........ It that gonna be a floating dash? Primer looks really good, and is always a major step......
