The wheels look great!

I would certainly use the opened grille. I did that on my 55 and I'm quite happy with the way it turned out.

"Shinkicker" That just made me smile. Nicely done!

Thank you, David! I am kind of leaning toward using the grille. If not, I am considering adding some perforated aluminum sheet I have, behind the kit grille surround. Glad you like "Shinkicker"! Like I said, it seemed fitting!?

Here is the "Shinkicker" decal, with the overlay, and installed on the spoiler (I couldn't help myself!).

Cool project.

Thank you, Bob. I appreciate it! I keep skipping around to different parts of the project, but, I really want to get the chassis ready for, and painted, and the wheels on. So far, everything just builds right up, from there!

Thanks, David! I finished up the rear wheels and mounted the slicks to them. I printed Summers Brothers axle tags on white decal paper. I punched them out with a short piece of 3/32" brass tubing that I sharpened the end on, then mashed it to an oblong/elliptical shape. A couple of taps with a small hammer cut them right out. I switched the previous set of front tires out for a set of Firestone Supremes from an AMT parts pack. I'm not all that happy with the color of the rear wheels, but, without starting them over, or building a new set...meh, I wouldn't call it a deal-breaker. I'll be working on the fronts, next. Thanks for looking!

Wow Daniel, that's some crazy detail with the decals for the axles! ?

You're giving this kit way more than it was ever intended to have.

Though it's difficult to see them, I do like the Firestones on the front. One doesn't see many of those today, which is odd because they were everywhere at the time.

Thank you, kindly, David! I've been putting them on a few of my projects, recently. I went ahead and printed a sheet with Summers Bros., Mark Williams and Strange axle tags. I enjoy adding little stuff like that, to add interest to my models.

There's something about me, with these old Monogram kits!? I always have a great time, with them. I can never leave them alone, either!

I really like the parts pack Firestones, on the front, too. The lettering is nicely subtle. They look right, on the car, too. Thanks for following along, and for your comments!

The front wheels are finished (as with the rears, they'll get some weathering, in the form of dust, and probably a wash). I made the dust caps with aluminum from a dollar store knitting needle. The stuff machines, beautifully! It's perfect for small parts. I mixed some paint, using One-Shot. I call it "Purple People Eater", because I wanted something similar to the Minnesota Vikings' purple. Their defense, right abut the time this car would have raced was called essentially that, so...Thanks for looking!

Love those front wheels!

Where's that purple paint going to go? Is it for an accent color or the whole body?

David G.

It's for the whole car. I didn't have anything I liked, so, I thought I would mix some up! One-Shot is typically slow to dry (that allows it to flow out), but I'll speed it up with some lacquer thinner, just before I apply it. I think it'll look great, with the gold leaf! Thanks, David! I always appreciate your comments. Since I forgot to mention it on your thread--the Chaparral body looks great! They grey panel wash looks just right!

I've been working on the wheelie bar assembly. I like the vertical bars, on this car! There's still quite a bit to do, with them, but there's plenty done to get an idea of where they're headed. I turned the wheels from knitting needle aluminum, and the tires from Delrin. I may do them all over, again, as I was trying to get by with a piece of Delrin that was left from another project. I managed to make the second tire, but I could do a nicer one, starting with a bigger chunk of plastic! I think it looks cool, under there!

I don't know that I've ever seen wheelie bars like these before.

Maybe I have but with them tucked up under the body as they are, I just didn't notice them. In any event, they're cool and look great.

Also, thanks for your comment on the Chaparral Daniel. I think this is the first comment someone has made on one of my builds on someone else's thread. :D

Thanks again,

I love the wheels on this ride (especially to dirty bronze color). The purple body...solid or metallic? Either one works for me but may I suggest you make that purple more on the dark side. This ride is meant to look sinister and intimidating!

I have! There the same style that's on grumpy's toy 9. The same car I'm working on right now in another WIP.274932101_5005207172866408_5526648930512104127_n.jpg.45e5d2298f1ba9cdd098be601feb7d99.jpg.efe0ae6a237ffd271b078bc14a0f063a.jpg

These were on quite a few Gassers and Pro Stocks. I recall seeing at least a couple with pretty large tires, too. You're welcome! I thought I'd better mention it while I was thinking about it!? Thanks again, my friend!

Thank you, Pierre! I'm going with a solid purple. I'm definitely leaning toward a darker shade. I tried to bring the tone up, a little, on the color on the spoon. I am going to need to add a little more blue, into it, and maybe a dab of black. I'll get it dialed-in! At first, I wasn't thrilled with the color of the wheels, but, they've really grown on me!

This is going to be a great looking model when you're finished. The color, the wheels and the stance scream HOT ROD!

Thanks, Steve! I know it's going to look better than the one I built 50 years ago!? I appreciate your comments.

It was stumbling across the photos on your thread that reminded me to have a look at these! Glad I saw them, too. They look right at home, on this thing!

Great progress, wheelie bars (if you can call them that) perfectly period correct, love the wheel color overall and the purple should be a winner. How the hell did you letter the front Firestones?

Thanks, Ian! They're pad printed AMT's. I'd guess they're in some of their kits, but don't know which ones. These are from their Firestone Supreme parts pack, which is one of the most reasonably priced ones! Some of them have insane prices!

I finished the adjustable section of the wheelie bars. I've since added the cross-bracing to the down tubes. Those wont get painted until the chassis does. I'm currently weighing options for how I want to do the traction bars. The ones I made seem like they'd be a little flimsy. I'm deciding whether I want to build a new set, or just add some sort of "webbing", to these, to give them a bit more beef. Once those are done, I think I can get on to finalizing the engine location. Your comments are always welcomed. Thanks for looking!
