Hello Everybody!

The chassis is mostly complete. Moving on the interior, I need to find a way to replicate the trim on the bucket seat backs.

Given the faintness of the detail on this casting, the best way is to make my own trim with silver bead wire.

With the bead wire in place, it's time to start applying some BMF.

I'm pleased with the way they came out.

Great looking seat trim. Ford was putting interiors in their top-of-the-line models way above their price point.

Thank you David.

Yeah, it was the Sixties. Everybody had more money just because there was more money to be had.

Hello Everybody!

It's time for the next Ford Galaxie update!

The interior is completed!

Basic black upholstery with chrome trim accents. Simple and to the point.

Though no one will likely ever see it, I did manage to work some dashboard detail into the scene.

Hello Everybody!

There are some problems that once discovered, one must simply stop everything else to deal with. I found some tire scarring on the windshield glass.

The scars have been removed using some Zona brand polishing paper. Now I just have to bring on the shine.

Further use of the Zona polishing paper and we're almost as good as new.

Now, on to the next activity!

Very nice work on the interior David, especially those seats. That is some nice attention to detail. Nice save on the windshield, I have mixed results when polishing kit glass, yours looks fantastic.

Thank you Steve, I appreciate that. I think I got lucky with the windshield. The scar wasn't that deep and the gods of styrene were with me that day :D

Hello Everybody!

I'm hoping to have the Ford Galaxie completed soon, but we all know how that sometimes goes.

In any event, here's the next update.

After spraying some primer, sanding out some imperfections and giving it a good washing, I got some paint on the body! The color is Tamiya TS-37 Lavender.

65_Galaxie_30.jpg.3e26e3c6abecdc3c1845f6b1ac88731b.jpg

The dual quads and cold air induction system won't possibly fit under the stock hood, so it's good that AMT provided a hood scoop. According to the directions it's supposed to be installed with the openings toward the front. But, my model-builder senses and car-guy cognition tell me that that's incorrect.

I'm basing this choice on the belief that this hood scoop is supposed to emulate the appearance and function of the classic Ford "teardrop" or "bubble" hood scoop. The "teardrop" scoop was the scoop used on the famous Ford Thunderbolt track cars of the era. The engine set-up in this car is similar to the Thunderbolts in that it will have cowl induction to bring in the cool air needed by the engine for combustion. The scoop then acts as a chimney to draw out the heat created by all of that combustion. Having the openings pointing forward would work against this process.

Although the hood looks good in black primer, I think that would be a trend from a different era, It will be the same color as the body.

That's all for this round. As always, thanks for taking the time to look and please feel free to comment.

Hello Everybody!

It's time for the next update.

The first coat of paint on the hood had these strange flaws. Maybe some contamination from the Tamiya Extra Thin Cement. It looks like it should sand out.

65_Galaxie_33.jpg.34d3df19d4f936c1b10083e4561a7ea7.jpg

I used DupliColor primer because it's the only black primer I have right now. Being designed for bodywork on 1:1 vehicles, it's a little coarser than Tamiya primer. It therefore requires more color sanding to smooth it out.

While I was tearin' it up, I decided to re-scribe the fuel door panel lines. They were pretty soft.

Duplicolor primer is a hot primer..

Indeed it is Carl. Once it grabs that styrene, it does not let go!
