Csaba aka felhasznaaloo Posted May 22, 2024 Posted May 22, 2024 (edited) So I started this project back in 2018, some time after Sean Kiernan came forward with the Bullitt movie car. It started out as a triple build, right now the plan is to finish 2 models: the fictitious car depicted in the movie, in the condition it was in right before the chase, and the real/existing movie prop/survivor car that was eventually auctioned off in 2020. Minus the camera mounts?? Using one Revell Bullitt kit and a Mustang 2in1 kit, which were purchased before (or came from a batch before) the correct '68 interior parts were added by Revell, so some takeaway food tray foil work was necessary on the door cards and rear seat back, in addition to a LOT of scratchbuilding and modifications... espo Posted May 22, 2024 Posted May 22, 2024 Like the idea for your build. The chase scene set the standard for movie chase scenes in its day. 1
slusher Posted May 23, 2024 Posted May 23, 2024 Looking so nice! I still have the 2008 one to build I did the 68 Bullitt ..
Csaba aka felhasznaaloo Posted May 23, 2024 Author Posted May 23, 2024 Thank you all. A cool movie with the greatest car chase scene and a fascinating story behind the survivor movie car. Good motivation for a model project ?
Csaba aka felhasznaaloo Posted May 25, 2024 Author Posted May 25, 2024 Progress on the wheels with scratchbuilt drums and rotors. Also played a little with my ACME rust powder ? 3

espo Posted May 25, 2024 Posted May 25, 2024 The under carriage looks like a SF Bay area car might look if parked on the street its whole life.

Thank you! Painted parts black (or metallic black, silver, dull red ... as necessary). Then dabbed some clear on with a brush and dusted some rust powder on it. Then brushed off the excess rust after a few minutes of drying.

Csaba aka felhasznaaloo Posted May 25, 2024 Author Posted May 25, 2024 Lightly weathered Frank's chassis.... and played some more with the rust powder on the Kiernans' car. 4
Csaba aka felhasznaaloo Posted July 18, 2024 Author Posted July 18, 2024 A little progress. If anyone wondered if the headers fit between the frame rails: they don't. ? 5

Bainford Posted July 27, 2024 Posted July 27, 2024 Cool project, and very nice work. Weathering looks great. 1
vamach1 Posted October 8, 2024 Posted October 8, 2024 Very cool. I got to see the car about five years ago before it made the rounds and was sold at auction. 2 1

Csaba aka felhasznaaloo Posted October 26, 2024 Author Posted October 26, 2024 A little update after a long break... scratchbuilt exhaust, brake cables, rear end now installed, fixing damages on the way. 2
Csaba aka felhasznaaloo Posted October 26, 2024 Author Posted October 26, 2024 (edited) Did a paint test with the highland green colors I bought years ago for this project. Gravity "GC-2191 Ford Bright Highland Green" has a blue-ish but otherwise nice dark tone to it. Zero "ZP-1205 Dark Metallic Green 1968 Ford Mustang Bullitt" is a greener, lighter color. Both have way too much metallic "flake" in them. Tried using them unstirred, but that makes both of them very dark. I might buy automotive paint custom mixed without the "flakes". Edit: my phone's camera makes very grainy pictures, so that is a factor to the photo, on top of the metallic paint. Edited October 26, 2024 by Csaba aka felhasznaaloo
espo Posted October 26, 2024 Posted October 26, 2024 Would a light coat of Clear Green help tone down the metallic appearance?
