A little update: almost forgot to replicate the front side of the radiator, which was necessary since I did not cut an opening in the radiator support. I used a piece of tulle(?) ribbon and heat shrink tube slices on both sides.

I also made "cheating hood hinges" out of beercan material ? and some coil spring from a 4-color pen. These hinges will not operate properly - did that on my '70 Dodge Challenger build, not this time. So the hinges will just sink into the engine bay when the hood is closed, and will rest on a pair of flanged studs at each side when the hood is up. Managed to blue tack the hinges in the lowered position, then glue the hood onto them on one model so far.

Also had highland green paint custom mixed without the metallic flake, and semi gloss 2-part clear to go with it, though haven't tested them yet.

Hello all.

When I started out model building, in 2012, I asked my first questions, shared my build progress, and made a few modeling friends on the Scale Auto forum. I was surprised back then how many people generally contributed to that forum. Now/here I get the feeling this is a nice little club with just a few faithful patrons. Much less scary 😉

Teeny tiny update here. Both bodies are now prepped for painting the color, apart from some masking/salt application on the survivor car. Made / modified mirrors and sun visors while gathering courage for the painting 😁 (little scared I'll screw it up).

I think I get a little scared every time I go to paint.  I used to paint bodies first before getting too involved in the build because I had less to loose if I screwed up.  But after painting a few 1:1 cars painting these little ones are a lot less scary.

The work that's going into these two builds is nothing short of amazing. I finished a 67 fastback in early 2022 and now want to tackle a Bullitt Mustang after seeing this thread. Highly inspirational stuff going on in here.

I’m really enjoying following this then and now build of this iconic car. Lots of awesome little details and techniques I’d like to apply in my builds. Top stuff. 👍🏻

G’day Len, I still paint the bodies first for exactly the same reason.

Lenny, I have painted hundreds of bodies in my life and still get nervous when starting a new one.  Paint has been changed so much over the years…
