1968 Mustang GT/CS California Special

I have started to build Mustangs that I used to own, the ones that got away. I used to own a J-code 302-4v Lime Gold GT/CS some years ago. I got a resin body and a 1968 GT Fastback kit. The resin body took a lot of work but I think it turned out ok. Of course I had to add LED headlights, taillights and gauge lights. That seems to become necessary for any build I do these days, according to my family.

That looks beautifully detailed and finished, l especially love the interior. I’ve never had a lot of success working with resin, so l admire your work on the body. I always wondered why the 67/68 hardtop shape hasn’t been kitted by a big kit brand, I’d certainly buy a couple if it was.

Cheers, Stu.

I have been following your build and you did a great job with this.  I forgot that the 68 Ford products had reflectors for side markers in the rear!  Like Chrysler had in 69.  Anyhow again you have really done a great job on this.

It would be nice. I am planning a 1967 Convertible conversion in the future but will probably scratch build the trunk area.

That is one gorgeous GT/CS there Donald, and the light show has become your trademark. Detail is excellent as usual, really well done.

Cheers,

David. ??

Thanks. My family tells me I can’t do a build without the working lights anymore. It is a challenge at time figuring out how I will make them work, especially for the corvettes. Finding room for the battery is also a challenge at times.

I would assume that was all the new law required early on. Thanks.

Stellar build!,the addition of lights really makes it stand out!.?

Thank You! If I even hint at not adding LED lights to a build now my family gets on to me. :D The worst so far was making the pop-up headlights work for a C4 corvette though.

I enjoyed watching your attention to details on your build and the addition of the lighting adds another level of realism to your build. The California Special models of the Mustang looked so much better than the standard coupes of the day. The colors and finishes give this a very realistic look. Always special to build a model of a car or truck that you previously owned and appreciated.

Thank You! I have been trying to use accurate paint colors through all of my builds. Luckily the paint for many classic models is available.  Since I built the Mustangs, we currently have in the family I thought I would go back and do some we previously owned interspersed with other cars and trucks. My wife asked that I do a 1950 Chevy 3100 Pickup next though, in the dark green they were available in. This will be my third one in a row in green. :D

Outstanding Mustang Donald, my neighbor up the street had one of those a few years back found it sitting in a field and when he first saw it he couldn't believe what he was seeing so he tracked down the owner and the rest is history as they say, he restored it into a beautiful car then something else tickled his fancy so he sold it.
