Mobius Models' new 1965 Dodge Coronet Two Door Sedan A990 and "Street Sleeper" - first look inside these boxes...

Recommended Posts

At this link is posted an album with 58 images of the contents of both of these new kits.

Here's a closer look inside Moebius Models' 1965 Dodge Coronet A990 Two door sedan, and a derivative "Street Sleeper" (my description) kits. This derivative kit is best described as mostly the A990 kit contents with some new parts and and also some parts deletions (vs. the A990). The new parts are designed for a street use adaptation, and include a rear bench seat, a set of street/drag tires, and 426-S Wedge RB engine with factory four barrel and prior year Max Wedge street induction options. (The A990 kit, of course, has the 426 Hemi). Both kits have a number of extra parts, particularly notable in the chrome tree shots.

The photos show the entire contents of the A990 kit, followed by only the parts trees that differ for the Street Sleeper kit.

The entire instruction manuals for both kits are included, so that you can go through and see al the differences between the two.

For this review I am letting the pictures do all the talking rather than adding captions as I usually do in new kit "look inside the box" recaps.

Thanks for looking...TIM

Hmmmmm. Do I spy a Plymouth Belvedere grille and a pair of Belvedere taillights on that chrome tree?

Yes they are part of the plated parts trees in all three kits.  That's a real plus for me as I've found it difficult to get a good result applying thinned flat black to the Belvedere Grille due the shallow engraving (which is actually correct as the 1/1 scale grille has very shallow depth).  Having these extra grilles will allow me to do that to several griles and pick the best result for use on the model.  Wish I had had that opportunity when I built my first A990 project six or seven years ago now....TB

I am glad you shared the Photos with us Tim, but I really missed the Context and Knowledge your captions provide on your previews. Not being very well informed about these cars, the things you point out, are often things I would have never noticed.

Nevertheless, I Thank You for posting these as your Clear, Sharp photos are the best way of looking at a kit, before I buy.

Cheers, Alan

Wow ! I got my two yesterday i got two of the kits with the blue artwork i am thinking about getting two more when i open it up i had to open the second one just to see if the first one was a mistake it has both grills the single and dual headlights it has both motors and there is a second chrome tree that has a second set of dog dish caps and a set of mags and for whatever reason the chrome parts like the grill and bumpers for the 65 Plymouth that came out a few years ago it's an awesome kit.

Tim, I'm a bit gunshy about detailing that grille too, due to what you mentioned, and I'm wondering if oil paint could work, first apply to the whole grille, let dry, and then go gently over the grille with a cloth or a flat pencil erazor cut to size.

Just thinking oud loud.

Cheers

Both the altered wheelbase kit and this kit looks to be nice and I will for sure get both of them.
But I don't like the steel wheels in the Moebius kits, they look weird as the wheel centers curves outwards too much, OEM wheels doesn't look like that.
So I wish they would redo the steel wheels and get a more correct look.

Go find your local store that sells Warhammer miniatures.  Go there and get a bottle of "Nuln Oil".  Problem solved.

Thanks for the kind words Tim!

Appreciate the heads-up on that, Erik.  And big congrats to you, Dave, and the team for getting these kits finished and on the market!   Cheers...TIM

The only thing I can find wrong is the propensity for molding all the wheels with insufficient negative offset. That’s fine for skinny stock tires or drag fronts but it’s annoying seeing a wide rear slick or tire on a wheel with the face almost flush with the outer tire sidewall. It’s an important detail that I think really affects the overall look of the finished kit.

I 100% agree with you on this. They almost look like one of those little donut tire spare rims. I plan on incorporating a set of Joseph’s big and little stock Mopar rims on my A990 build. And when you add the wheel covers to the kit supplied Moebius rims, they look even worst.

Exactly.
It almost looks like the hub cap is outside the rim...like on an old pedal car.

Erik

Bought it yesterday and tried it on a Monogram truck grille.

Doesn't look to shaby, think the key is, to apply it in layers waiting a day or so in between. Or what's your experience or secret Erik?

These are what should have come in the kits. I really do appreciate all the time and effort that goes into the tooling, production and distribution of new kits and these look like excellent quality kits. I’m reluctant to critique such superb efforts by pointing out what seems like such a minor detail but in this case I think it’s an important one. What do you guys think?

I Agree for the amount of Money we send on them and the one I just can't get over is the Tail light not having red lenses .
