The stars finally aligned today and I was able to shoot some clear. Came out pretty good, the color is a bit darker then these photos show. Decals and the clear got along just fine. Have a couple of dust nibs on the hood I need to fix but otherwise we are in good shape.

Give t a few days to harden and then we can polish and do the BMF.

Sat down this afternoon to play with the BMF. Got the side cove done. Think it's a little wide along the top but it's straight so I'm going to leave it. Could try to thin it down a bit but it would probably turn to ?

Before the last of the  daylight ran away I took it outside so I could get a few pics in natural light which shows the color better. Still have the windshield frame to do which shouldn't be too hard.

I haven't done anything to the clear coat. This is the way it came out of the gun. I think it's safe to leave it this way, maybe just a bit of polish.

That's looking very nice. I'm really digging the look of the red in natural light.

Thanks, the incandescent lighting just doesn't do it justice.

Beautiful paint, and I agree with Trevor about how much better it looks in the natural light.

Thanks guys. The sad part right now is that after taking these pics I can’t find the trunk lid.  Hope the dog didn’t get it. ?

Found it!!! It was hiding under the paint stand. That little bugger?

The phrase "that little bugger" is, I think, not a widely used derogatory, Len.  My mother would say it occasionally,  referring to me, of course ?.

Welcome to BMF week. Got the foil done on the vette. More here then I expected for a little car. Also got the windshield in place and started work on the interior. Need another coat on the seat inse ts and have to do the dash gauges and find a steering wheel.

That dark brown just doesn't want to cover. DSC00966.jpg.21dcb6a4d2d1088616365b6a72af5c8b.jpg

Hopefully I can get this on it's wheels pretty soon. See ya then.

I think there's something wrong with that dark brown paint, Len.  What is it? You might try a softer brush, though.  The foil looks great, especially against the red.

It's an old bottle of testors. Used the same stuff on the carpet and it worked out fine which is weird. Think I might scuff it up a bit and try again. If not, find another brown.

And the BMF I have been doing lately looks almost too shiny to me. Especially on my Duster. I ordered a sheet of the matte to see how it looks on the next project.

Len, which variety of BMF did you use? The "Ultra Bright Chrome" or the "New Improved Chrome"?  I think I used the "Aluminum" on the Edsel (by mistake; things are a bit mixed up here ?) and it buffs up looking like stainless, which is actually better for most trim anyway. I think if you use the "matte aluminum" and buff it, you will probably like it.

Testor's enamel, unless it is hardened in the bottle, should be OK on the second coat.

I used the "new improved chrome".  Most of the trim around the windows and such is not really meant to be chrome. It's either stainless or aluminum. That's why I'm thinking about using the "matte aluminum". Thanks for confirming my thinking?

Happy to help. ?

So work has ensued on the interior.  I got a different bottle of Testors brown which took care of the seat inserts. The original SMP steering wheel was broken but it did have one redeeming artifact. It had the column hub and turn signal. That appears to have been dropped from the subsequent AMT reissues. So I added the original hub, with it's oversized turn signal lever, to the reissues steering wheel. I drilled out the holes in the steering wheel. My pics of this turned out like ?

I added the printed instruments to the dash with some difficulty. The speedo was too large for the dash, or maybe it fits the repo dash better. So it took some carving to make it fit. I didn't use the gauges or clock that came with the set as trying to cut perfect circles out for them proved futile. I instead painted the gauges. I did use the radio dial.

The pic accentuates the wrinkles in the BMF as it wraps around the inside of the windshield frame. In hindsight I probably would have been better off doing it with Molotow. But I'm not going back and redoing it at this point since the glass and interior are glued in place. Besides this was meant to be a simple quick build to finish a project someone else started and it's gone a lot further then I originally planned. And we're not done yet.

That’s coming together very nicely @LennyB. I’m not vette fan but I do like this one.

Thanks Bil, I'm not either but I just felt I needed to finish this for the person who started it. Be they still with us or passed on at this point.

I see you have met my little brown buddy, Len.  I think of him as my little work-around. ?

I love the gen 1 & 2 'vettes and this one should have been the '63. It just makes sense... to me, ? anyway

I can understand that completely.  I mean the bit about the vette, not your little brown buddy. But you are free to keep whatever friends you like. shopping.webp.d8b1fde09354d616607aa59080bcfa89.webp
