In the first place, I cannot understand why these parts have to fall to the floor . . . Almost on a daily basis, small kit parts leave my fingers and head off downwards to oblivion. Then, despite an extremely thorough search, usually on my hands and knees ( not easy at 71 ), using a good hand held lamp and staring desperately at every single square inch of the hard wood floor . . . Nothing . . . Absolutely no sign of the elusive missing part.

The part has seemingly gone forever . . . Unless as you say, the part mysteriously and mockingly, suddenly appears within easy view later !

It does seem to be the case that once the part is replaced, the one that was originally lost returns to gloat smugly.

Also:

I like to think that everything we've ever lost throughout the course of our lives is waiting for us in there Heaven when we die.

Something to look forward to!

....so....my mind is there already? That's a relief ?

Exactly. Wormhole.  "Help! I lost my tail light lens and I can't get up!" ?

not sure what i can build with 17 pe seat buckles but i'll start losing more varied parts to safe

Maybe it's time to sacrifice a couple of those to the carpet monster gods! :D

Just to be on the safe side.

Hello Everybody!

I finally gathered up my resolve to fabricate and install a replacement steering column. The interior is now completed!

BlackCab_38.jpg.3ff620346acf32e08e27a45eb43a0522.jpg

The dashboard detail is provided by decals included in the kit along with some detail painting. The Taxi license is also a kit decal.

A quick check of the door cards I made.

Putting the interior and body together revealed that I'll have to make some adjustments to the door cards if I'm going to use them.

But the paint looks great!

I also managed to get the parting lines and flash on the bumpers smoothed out.

That's all for this build session.

As always, thanks for taking time to look and please feel free to post any comments you may have.

All of your interior work has come together nicely David, and those door cards will be fine once you have trimmed them a little . . .

This Aoshima Taxi Cab has all the makings of an excellent build . . . Good job on the exterior paintwork. We are mastering the black finish steadily.

Thank you very much David. I actually wanted to build this one, in part to sharpen my black paint skills. I'm anticipating two builds where I'll need such skills, a 1959 Cadillac hearse and Green Hornet's Black Beauty.

Thank you both,

David G.

one thing I do is if you don’t see it is Pat the carpet in areas it should be and the part will bounce and you will see It.  If that doesn’t work I send the wife in there to help..

I actually have this one on the bench too. Using it to hone my BMF skills.

It's on the backburner though, as I managed to lose the entire clear sprue. So all windows and lights are missing. Still in the bag too.

Something I noticed...it seems significantly larger than 1/24 to me. Maybe closer to 1/20. I have the Revell version too, and it's the same thing. Although I suppose the Revell is just a rebox of this Aoshima kit.

You're going much further than I am down the "adding details" rabbit hole.

Nicely done!

Thank you Dan. Yes it does seem to be a bit on the large side.

Do you have any photos of the one you're working on? If so, I'd love to see them.

Thanks,

Hello Everybody!

I'm in a push to get this one completed before year's end. A self-imposed goal but it's the only kind of goal I seem to have these days. :D

Here's a quick rundown of my most recent build session's outcome.

The final polish is on the paint, I think it looks pretty good.

BlackCab_43.jpg.e0783d5caa227f07f66bcfb7d1058c50.jpg

As a result of all the trimming and cutting for fitting, the original door cards I made got a little too beat up so I made a new set using the first ones as a template.

I still have to add the hardware.

BlackCab_44.jpg.cd8f6651991cd74ec135e4a099e5548d.jpg

The bumpers have been sprayed with Rustoleum chrome and they look good enough.

As always, thanks for taking the time to look and please feel free to comment if the spirit moves you.

Beautiful paint and finish, David!  What Rust-Oleum did you use on the bumpers, I’m unfamiliar?

Thank you Carl. The full name is Rustoleum Metallic Finish Bright Chrome.

Cool project...but it needs a blown LS, doncha think?

Just kidding.

The bumpers look really good too, especially with something from Rustoleum on them.  :D

Yeah, If I had a nickel for every time somebody said "Dood!   Put a Hemi in it!" Or whatever big racing engine they fancy, I'd have...

Well, I wouldn't even have a dollar but maybe I could make a phone call.

If I could find a pay phone.  :D

Yeah, Given my personal history with Rustoleum and the opinion of model builders in general, I'm kind of surprised by how well it works. Given the ease and convenience, I'll continue using it until they change the formula and make it unusable.

So... probably just this can then.

Thank you much Bill.

Thank you kindly Noel. I've never had the pleasure of riding in one but the cabs and their cabbies are legendary throughout the world.

Thanks again,

Rustoleum is on my 💩 list these days but I have to say the bumpers look pretty good. Can you handle them much? Did you spray anything over them or is that straight out of the can.
I just did some wheel covers with the Revell chrome and it rubbed off pressing them into the tires.  Went over it with floor polish and they were fine but lost a little luster. Which was ok for wheel covers.

Generally I'm not a Rustoleum fan either Len.

The paint dries as you see it with no clear applied. I haven't tried to put a clearcoat over it so I have no idea how it would respond.  It's more durable than Molotow and dries much more quickly. It's rather fragile in that it can lose its luster if handled too much but it's durable enough to withstand a modest amount handling. I often use cotton gloves when I work with parts that have been painted with it as the paint does seem to be a little susceptible to skin oils.

I've never used Revell's chrome paint so I have no idea how it compares.

I hope that helps.

Hello Everybody!

The push continues on the London Black Cab. Here are the results of the most recent build session.

Now that the paint is done it's on to the foil. I got the running board trim on both sides applied, one tail light bezel and the boot latch on the back. Luckily there isn't much chrome on these cars, they're nice but they're not fancy.

BlackCab_46.jpg.36ad2b470dfecbbdd3b68d23f52468ce.jpg

I've installed the hardware on the door cards. It still needs a little cleanup but other than that, good enough.

BlackCab_47.jpg.ae372b0319e52a6ce7a1320e075942de.jpg

Just a quick test fit shows that these door cards should suffice. At least they'll look better than the bare plastic of the body shell.

As you say, not a lot of chrome on the taxi cab, so minimal BMF work to do . . . Nice work on the door cards, and I agree, loads better than bare plastic. Those four exterior door handles look a bit tricky for BMF . . .
